About me and my therapy practice
Hi, welcome to the wonderful world of the BACP directory. A little overwhelming. If this is your first time in the counselling space I'm very aware that it can all feel a little daunting. My role is to support you to navigate that. My approach to counselling is that my starting point is 'what has brought you to therapy and what are you hoping will change?' Seemingly simple questions but layered with complexity as we venture in vulnerable spaces. We will go at your pace with my role being to facilitate your process. I work with compassion and without judgement or an agenda. Together we will explore and unravel the things that are holding you back, making you anxious, keeping you stuck or simply making you unhappy.
Practice description
My practice is built around your needs and what you are hoping to gain. You may have come to counselling due to a specific incident or issue or you may have a deeper sense of something not being 'right'. It can sometimes take a while for things to 'bubble to the surface' in the work. My role is to offer a confidential and facilitative space. I'm interactive as a therapist and work with curiosity. I will and do ask questions that I hope will support you to find some of the answers that you may be seeking. Therapy is daunting but can also be revelatory and transformative. I speak from personal experience. As a therapist I believe that it's important that we've done our own delving along the way.
I work from a belief that the wounds of childhood can hinder our development and will seek to explore this gently with you. I will work collaboratively with you to navigate the aspects of self that can feel challenging and exposing to share. I am also a qualified coach and we can incorporate goal setting related to things that are getting in your way where that feels appropriate for the work.
My first session
The first session is about exploring what you want from therapy and whether we feel we can work well together. You need to feel comfortable in the space, which can take a while. The introductory session will provide us both with insight as to how the sessions would work and whether I can offer what you need. I charge £30 for the first session of 30 mins. I usually offer this online.
