About me and my therapy practice

I specialise in supporting those who are contending with chronic illness. I also support women through fertility journeys and postpartum challenges. I am passionate about these areas and I am here for you if any of these themes are something you need support with. I work from 22 Drumsheugh Gardens in Edinburgh and Online.

You may look like you’re coping on the outside…

The one who keeps going. The one others rely on. The one who pushes through, adapts, and carries on, often without anyone realising how much you’re holding.

But underneath, you may be living with trauma, chronic illness challenges, fertility struggles, loss, postnatal identity shifts, burnout, or the emotional impact of difficult medical experiences.

Practice description

Hi, I’m Ailie. I’m a BACP-registered psychotherapist trained in Transactional Analysis. I specialise in trauma informed therapy with an interest in chronic illness and fertility issues. I am based in Edinburgh and West Lothian, as well as online, by telephone, and through walk-and-talk therapy in nature.

My approach is gentle, collaborative, and focused on understanding the deeper patterns that shape how you feel, think, and relate to yourself and others.

Many of the women I work with come to therapy feeling stuck in cycles of overthinking, self-criticism, emotional overwhelm, or patterns in relationships that feel hard to change.

Together, we begin to make sense of where these patterns come from, not just intellectually, but in a way that helps you feel them with more clarity, compassion, and understanding.

As we build a trusting therapeutic relationship, you may start to notice space opening up: less internal pressure, more self-awareness, and a growing ability to respond to life rather than simply react from old patterns.

I don’t offer advice or fixed solutions. Instead, I support you in developing your own understanding of what’s happening internally, so that any changes you make feel authentic, sustainable, and self-directed.

In Transactional Analysis, we refer to this as “script”, the unconscious patterns we develop early in life. In therapy, we gently explore your script together, so you can understand how it has shaped you, and decide what you want to carry forward and what you may be ready to change.

My first session

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s completely normal to feel unsure before you begin.

Individual sessions are 50 minutes and £60, and couples sessions are 60 minutes and £80. You can choose to meet online, in person in the West End of Edinburgh, or outdoors in nature if that feels supportive for you.

People come to therapy for different lengths of time, some for focused support during a particular challenge, and others for longer-term exploration of deeper patterns, relationships, or emotional experiences. There is no fixed expectation.

A 15 minute introductory call gives us a gentle space to connect as a starting point so we can talk through what’s bringing you here, and see whether working together feels like the right fit for you. There is no pressure to decide straight away.
