About me and my therapy practice

I'm Nick, a UKCP-accredited and BACP-registered psychotherapist with over 18 years' experience supporting children, young people, adults and families across educational, therapeutic and mental health settings. I offer a warm and collaborative space where someone can be seen, heard and accepted for who they truly are.

Often, the challenges that bring people to therapy are not immediately obvious. Anxiety, emotional outbursts, withdrawal, low mood, family conflict or a sense of feeling stuck can all be signs that something deeper is asking to be understood.

My work is rooted in the belief that behaviour, emotions and relationships make sense when we take time to understand the story behind them. Drawing on attachment, psychodynamic and integrative approaches, I tailor therapy to the individual rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

Working together, we can begin to develop greater understanding, resilience and confidence, creating the conditions for meaningful and lasting change.

Practice description

I've worked with people of different ages, strengths and experiences, including both neurotypical and neurodivergent individuals.

What I’ve been struck by is how people make real progress when the right support is in place, support that places their uniqueness at the centre rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. Again and again, I see the difference it makes when people are given a space where they feel genuinely listened to, understood and accepted.

While my academic background is in the social sciences, it has always been the “social” that drives my passion. I've long been interested in how people survive and thrive through the most difficult of circumstances, and how relationships help shape who we become.

This belief remains at the heart of my work today: healing and growth happen through relationships. While my approach is informed by a range of therapeutic models, the relationship we build together remains central to the work.

As an integrative psychotherapist, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches to meet the needs of each child, young person, adult or parent I work with.

My practice is rooted in person-centred, attachment-based and psychodynamic thinking, while remaining flexible enough to adapt to the individual in front of me. Whatever form the work takes, the therapeutic relationship remains at the heart of the process.

My first session

Firstly, I will offer a free 20 minute phone call, with a parent or carer, if the client is a child or adolescent, or the client, if they are an adult, to talk through what’s been happening, answer any questions and see whether I feel like the right fit.

Secondly, if we decide to move forward, I would send some forms about contracting, GDPR and requesting some background information in preparation of meeting.

Thirdly, we meet in person or online to explore background, current challenges and what support may be most helpful. For children, this consultation takes place without your child present. For young people, it may involve the young person, the parent/carer, or both, depending on what has been agreed in advance. For adults, this would be with the client, giving us time to explore your background, what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to get from the work. For children and adolescents this would be 90 minutes and with adults 50 minutes.
