About me and my therapy practice

I'm Nick, an integrative psychotherapist and founder of Calm Harbour Therapy, based in London E1 and working online across the UK. I hold an MA in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy (Terapia), I'm a UKCP-registered psychotherapist and a BACP-registered member, and I have an Enhanced DBS certificate and full indemnity insurance. Over more than 18 years, I've supported children, adolescents, parents and adults across educational, therapeutic and mental health settings, working with anxiety, low mood, family conflict, life transitions, bereavement, and neurodivergent experiences including autism and ADHD.

Often the difficulties that bring someone to therapy aren't the whole story. Emotional outbursts, withdrawal, anxiety or a sense of feeling stuck are usually signs that something deeper is asking to be understood. I offer a warm, non-judgemental space where children, young people and adults can feel genuinely seen, heard and accepted — without a one-size-fits-all approach.

My practice is integrative, drawing on person-centred, attachment-based, psychodynamic, play, and trauma-informed therapy, adapted to what each client actually needs. With children and young people, I often work relationally and through play; with adults, I combine talking therapy with reflective, attachment-focused work. I also offer Reflective Parenting sessions to support parents alongside their child's therapy.

I have a particular interest and depth of experience working with neurodivergent children and adults, including those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia and dyspraxia, and I hold an NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism. My approach is neuroaffirming: I work to understand each person's individual experience and strengths, not to "fix" or pathologise difference.

Practice description

I work with children and young people (5–18), adults, and parents, offering long-term, short-term and single-session therapy, face-to-face in East London (E1) and online.

With children and adolescents, I use play therapy, creative and talk-based approaches to help them process difficult emotions, navigate challenges at home, school and socially, and build confidence and resilience — particularly for neurodivergent young people who may feel misunderstood elsewhere. As one parent put it: "N very much enjoyed his time with Nick over the past year... he looked forward to every single session."

With adults, I offer a non-judgemental space to explore anxiety, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, grief, burnout, redundancy, work-related stress and trauma, drawing on person-centred, psychodynamic, attachment-based, CBT, mindfulness and trauma-informed approaches as appropriate to you.

For parents, I offer Reflective Parenting support — going beyond behaviour management to help you understand what sits beneath your child's emotions, strengthen your relationship and build confidence in family life.

Qualifications and training: MA in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy (Terapia); UKCP-registered psychotherapist; BACP-registered member (407303); NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism; Safeguarding and Child Protection in Private Practice (Level 3); Foundation Certificate in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (Minster Centre). Enhanced DBS and full indemnity insurance held.

I believe healing and growth happen through relationships — and that everyone, neurotypical or neurodivergent, deserves a space where they're understood on their own terms, not measured against a one-size-fits-all standard.

My first session

Firstly, I will offer a free 20 minute phone call, with a parent or carer, if the client is a child or adolescent, or the client, if they are an adult, to talk through what’s been happening, answer any questions and see whether I feel like the right fit.

Secondly, if we decide to move forward, I would send some forms about contracting, GDPR and requesting some background information in preparation of meeting. We will also discuss fees which range between £90 and £120 a session.

Thirdly, we meet in person or online to explore background, current challenges and what support may be most helpful. For children, this consultation takes place without your child present. For young people, it may involve the young person, the parent/carer, or both, depending on what has been agreed in advance. For adults, this would be with the client, giving us time to explore your background, what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to get from the work. For children and adolescents this would be 90 minutes and with adults 50 minutes.
