About me and my therapy practice
Perhaps you feel like you are 'too much', 'not enough', or even a maddening combination of both. Maybe you can clearly articulate your struggles, or they might be more diffuse - a sense that something doesn't feel quite right.
Whether you are exploring the possibility of therapy for the first time, or have had lots of therapy previously, I aim to offer a warm, non-judgmental space in which together, we can safely explore the difficulties that you are facing. Through developing trust, and gently challenging you, we will build a therapeutic relationship in which painful knots may be gradually loosened and untangled. By shining a light on those areas of darkness that are weighing on you, and developing a sense of being truly known, you may begin to encounter a sense of relief.
As an 'existential-phenomenological' therapist (also informed in psychodynamic and other theory which I hold lightly), my practice is rooted in a deep appreciation of the complexity of human existence. This includes the pain that inevitably arises in the relationships we have with others and with ourselves. I believe that pain is often best faced in relationship, and that the therapeutic relationship can, at times, be uniquely supportive and nurturing.
As well as private practice, my experience as a therapist has included working in: higher education (a music conservatoire); an NHS-funded women’s holistic health centre; and a low-cost long-term psychotherapy service. I have previous experience as a solicitor and as a student of philosophy. I have undertaken my own in-depth therapeutic journey; take regular clinical supervision; and take very seriously the view that psychotherapy is an ethical endeavour.
I work with clients from a wide range of backgrounds, including those who may identify as 'neurodivergent' and/or have experienced trauma.
I welcome enquiries in view of arranging an initial session, so that you can experience something of what it might feel like to work together.
