About me and my therapy practice

Hi, and thank you for visiting my profile.

I am an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor working with individuals and couples. I offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can explore what has brought you to therapy and what you would like to be different.

My approach is humanistic and relational, drawing on attachment theory, Transactional Analysis and trauma-informed practice. I adapt the way we work to you rather than expecting everyone to fit one particular model of therapy.

I work with a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, bereavement and loss, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, trauma, anger, substance misuse and recovery, suicidal thoughts and emotional distress, identity, sexuality, neurodiversity and work-related stress.

Our experiences, relationships, culture and identity can all influence how we understand ourselves and relate to others. As a Black British-Caribbean therapist, I recognise that race, culture, identity and experiences of difference may also be important parts of your story, if you choose to explore them.

I also work with couples experiencing communication difficulties, recurring conflict, emotional disconnection, trust or intimacy difficulties, and differences in emotional needs. Rather than taking sides, I help couples understand the patterns that have developed between them and explore healthier ways of relating to one another.

You don't need to know exactly what you want to talk about before starting therapy. We can begin with what is happening for you now and work together to understand what you need and what you would like to change.

If you are considering counselling, please feel free to get in touch to explore whether I might be the right therapist for you.

Practice description

My core training is integrative, allowing me to draw on different therapeutic perspectives according to your individual needs. My work is grounded in a humanistic and relational approach, with particular influences from attachment theory, Transactional Analysis and trauma-informed practice.

I work collaboratively rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. Together, we can explore your experiences, relationships and patterns, develop greater understanding of what may be happening for you, and consider changes that feel meaningful and achievable.

Alongside individual counselling, I offer couples counselling, helping partners explore relationship patterns, communication, emotional needs and difficulties with connection.

My first session

For individual counselling, I offer a free initial consultation of up to 30 minutes. This gives us an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to counselling, what you hope to gain from therapy and whether we feel we could work well together. There is no obligation to continue afterwards.

If we decide to work together, individual sessions are 50 minutes and will usually take place weekly at an agreed time.

For couples counselling, I use an initial assessment process to understand your relationship, what has brought you to counselling and what each of you hopes might change. I ask each partner to complete a short assessment form independently before we begin, helping me consider how best to approach our work together.

Couples sessions are 60 minutes.

Whether you are seeking individual or couples counselling, finding the right therapeutic relationship is important. You are welcome to ask questions about how I work before deciding whether you would like to continue.

Therapist - North Shields

Sessions from £70.00

Features

  • Flexible hours available

Availability

I currently have limited availability for daytime and evening appointments, with some Saturday appointments also available.

I offer face-to-face counselling in Tynemouth and Gosforth, alongside online counselling for clients across the UK.

My availability can change quickly, so please contact me to discuss current appointment times and whether I have a suitable space available.

About me and my therapy practice

Hi and thank you for visiting my profile.

My approach is human centred, compassion focused, and trauma informed. I believe that every person is shaped by their life experiences and has their own unique strengths and challenges. As such, I do not use symptom lists, diagnostic labels, or manualised treatments. If you are looking for a therapist who works in this way, I may not be the best practitioner to support your needs.

Therapy can feel daunting and confusing at first. We will begin by exploring together what brings you to therapy and creating a shared understanding of your unique life story. From here, we can begin to make connections between your history and your present difficulties, whatever they may be. My role is to empower you, offering choices and working together to plan the direction we take in therapy.

I respect and admire the courage it takes to be vulnerable with another human being and I feel honoured when someone chooses to share their story with me. I have taken this step myself a number of times in my life and know what a difficult decision it can be to reach out for support. If you choose to take this step, I look forward to meeting you.

Practice description

My core training is integrative, meaning I draw upon a range of therapeutic approaches to meet your individual needs. Rather than applying a single model, I tailor therapy to you, your experiences, and your goals.

My approach is informed by person-centred, psychodynamic, humanistic, cognitive and transpersonal perspectives. Together, we can explore patterns, relationships, thoughts, feelings and experiences in a way that supports greater understanding, self-awareness and meaningful change.

• All sessions are confidential.

• I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

• I hold an Enhanced DBS Certificate.

• I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

• I hold Professional Indemnity Insurance.

I have particular experience supporting men, working with suicidal thoughts, loss and bereavement, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties and issues relating to identity and self-esteem.

My first session

The first session provides an opportunity for us to begin exploring what has brought you to counselling and what you hope to gain from therapy. We will discuss any difficulties you may be experiencing, relevant aspects of your background, and any goals you would like to work towards.

I will also explain how I work, answer any questions you may have, and outline important information such as confidentiality, session arrangements and the counselling agreement.

The first session is also an opportunity for us to consider whether we feel comfortable working together. Research consistently shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in successful therapy, so it is important that you feel able to make an informed decision about whether I am the right therapist for you.

There is no obligation to continue after the first session.
