About me and my therapy practice
Making the decision to go to Counselling is an extremely brave one and finding the right Counsellor to work with can feel daunting. Having been through the process myself I know first-hand how important it is to make the right decision. Finding the right counsellor can be life changing. Counselling and support helped to change my life and that is an experience I want for the people I work with.
I believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to Counselling. Everyone is different; everyone’s story is different, and everyone faces their own challenges and has their own experiences. I offer my clients the space to share their story, express themselves and explore the things that matter to them, no matter how big or small they may be. My role is to listen, understand and support. The core values at the heart of my work are kindness, compassion and empathy.
Some people have a clear idea and understanding of what they want from Counselling, some people just know they need help and support whilst others may not know what they hope to achieve at all, and that is ok. I place great importance on building a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients so we can work together with mutual trust and understanding. Change looks different for everyone but no matter what you are looking for we will work together to figure it out. I aim to help my clients to develop their own inner resources and develop a stronger sense of self-awareness and self-acceptance.
As a registered member of the BACP, I adhere to their Ethical Framework and am committed to working safely and within my areas of competence. I put the safety and wellbeing of my clients at the forefront of my work.
Practice description
I primarily work as Person-Centred Counsellor. I place the client at the heart of the work.
I believe in a collaborative approach where we can discuss your needs and find the best way to support you. Communication and regularly reviewing the work is important for me. I am open to adapting and working with the client to provide the best support possible.
What my clients say
Client 1
"Seeking counselling was an extremely daunting thing for me at first. After meeting Richard I was instantly put at ease and he has helped me massively in working through my anxiety and helping me to see the light at the end of the tunnel. His knowledge and guidance has equipped me with tools that I will use for life and could not recommend him more"
Client 2
"I found Richard to be very personable, easy to talk to and compassionate. We connected quickly and not only was he able to identify and encourage me to digest some of the root causes of my anxieties and intrusive thoughts, he was also able to help me let go of them and move on. I originally approached therapy with a large dose of scepticism, but after a few sessions it was clear that talking through my problems with someone outside my circle of friends allowed me to be more frank and unguard. I ended up looking forward to the sessions because I knew I would feel so much happier afterwards.."
Client 3
"I came to Richard as I was experiencing difficulties with forming new relationships with potential partners which has been preventing me from moving forward. Richard has helped me identify why I have had these difficulties through weekly sessions which has allowed me to understand what has been holding me back. This has allowed me to form a new sustainable relationship which has been life changing."
My first session
I offer a free introductory 30 minute phone call where we can explore your reasons for seeking counselling and get to know each other.
A client will never be put under pressure to proceed with sessions, ultimately it is about making sure the client accesses the most appropriate support. The initial call comes with no obligations.

About me and my therapy practice
As a qualified counsellor and supervisor, my approach is grounded in the belief that supervision should feel safe, collaborative, and genuinely supportive of your growth as a practitioner. I work from a person‑centred foundation, bringing relational presence, empathic understanding, and a commitment to creating a space where you can explore your work openly and without judgement.
My supervisory style is reflective and developmental. I draw on the Seven‑Eyed Model and developmental frameworks to help you deepen your understanding of your client work, strengthen your clinical decision‑making, and build confidence in your professional identity. Supervision, for me, is a shared process where we think together, stay curious, and explore the therapeutic relationship from multiple angles.
I have experience supervising practitioners at different stages of their journey — from newly qualified counsellors navigating early practice to more experienced therapists seeking a reflective space to consolidate and grow. I aim to balance support with gentle challenge, helping you develop your skills while maintaining ethical, safe, and grounded practice.
Whether you are looking for ongoing supervision, a space to reflect on complex client work, or support as you develop your own therapeutic voice, I offer a warm, steady, and thoughtful supervisory relationship
Practice description
In my supervision practice, I offer a steady, reflective space where you can explore your client work, develop your clinical thinking, and grow in confidence as a practitioner. I work developmentally, adapting my approach to your stage of practice, whether you are in training, newly qualified, or an experienced therapist seeking deeper reflection.
My practice is grounded in person‑centred values, while also drawing on the Seven‑Eyed Model and other supervisory frameworks to help us explore your work from multiple perspectives. This allows us to look at the therapeutic relationship, your internal process, ethical considerations, and the wider systems influencing your practice.
Together, we will explore your strengths, areas for growth, and the challenges that naturally arise in therapeutic work. My aim is to offer supervision that is supportive, ethically robust, and appropriately challenging a space where you can reflect openly, develop your professional identity, and feel more grounded in your work.
My first session
Your first supervision session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and explore what you need from supervision. We will talk about your experience, your current client work, and what you hope to gain from the supervisory relationship. There is no pressure to have everything figured out the aim is simply to begin building a safe, open and collaborative space.
