About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified play therapist offering individual play therapy to children and young people in my private practice based in Hersham, Surrey.

I work in a child-centred way and my approach is non-directive. I create a playful safe space for the therapeutic relationship to develop, enabling your child to lead their play towards positive growth and change.

I use a humanistic, child-centred, non-directive approach to play therapy. I utilise the creative arts: music, art, drama, and movement to enrich the opportunities for a playful approach to therapy. The play room is equipped with a range of toys and creative materials: small world toys, role play props and dressing up clothes, puppets, small figures and animals, games, sand and sensory and art resources.

Play Therapy is a therapeutic approach which provides a way for children to express their thoughts and emotions through the medium of play rather than talking. For a child, the toys become their words, and I work to help children explore their feelings and process their experiences through their play.

Practice description

I offer weekly confidential play therapy sessions in my well-equipped playroom. The recommended minimum intervention is usually between 12-20 weeks depending on the child's individual and unique needs.

In addition to regular weekly play therapy sessions I aim to work systemically with families and the team around the child if appropriate. I offer support to parents in the form of review meetings every 6-8 weeks (or more often if required).

I have extensive experience of working with neurodivergent children and those with additional needs. Personal benefits to children receiving play therapy can include: restored and deepened relationships, increased self-confidence and self-esteem, reduction in fear and anxiety, resolution of traumas, increased concentration, improved behaviours and a reduction in aggressive behaviours.

Please get in touch to find out more about my approach and how I might be able to support you and your family.

My first session

Firstly, I offer parents a free 15 minute telephone consultation to briefly discuss your concerns.

An initial parent consultation can then take place during which we discuss your concerns further, go through relevant family history and set goals for the therapeutic work (approx 1.5 hours).

The first play therapy session is held with parents/carers present and then weekly individual play therapy sessions between myself and your child can begin.
