About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Mike, and I practise as a relational integrative therapist. This means I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, tailoring the way we work to your individual needs, while placing our relationship at the heart of the process.
My underlying belief is that, although we share many common human experiences, we are all unique. I believe that building a trusting, collaborative relationship creates the foundation from which we can explore what has brought you to therapy, gain a deeper understanding of yourself, and discover how meaningful, lasting change might come about.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent over 25 years working in finance. I understand the pressures of fast-paced, demanding environments and the challenges that can accompany them, including stress, anxiety, relationship difficulties, low mood and addictive behaviours.
I also know what it's like to sit on both sides of the therapeutic relationship. My own experience of therapy played an important part in bringing me to this profession, and has reinforced my belief in the value of a genuine, honest and purposeful therapeutic relationship.
Clients come to me with a wide range of challenges: anxiety, low mood, self-esteem, relationship difficulties, addictive behaviours, or simply a sense of feeling lost or stuck. Whatever brings you here, we'll work together at a pace that feels right for you.
My practice isn't about quick fixes. It's about finding flow, developing resilience and uncovering new possibilities, even in difficult terrain. I see my role as walking alongside you as we explore where life feels stuck and discover how small, steady movements can lead to meaningful change.
Practice description
I work independently, offering therapy tailored to your individual needs. My approach is relational at its core: I believe the quality of our therapeutic relationship provides a foundation for understanding, growth and meaningful change.
Drawing on humanistic, psychodynamic and existential perspectives within an integrative framework, our work might involve exploring past experiences, paying attention to what happens between us in the present, or considering practical steps towards change. Throughout, we'll work collaboratively, guided by your needs and aspirations, and the trust we develop together.
I believe counselling works best when you feel safe enough to be open and authentic, without fear of judgement. Establishing that sense of trust is something we build together, and it's important that we both feel comfortable about working with one another.
With this in mind, I offer a free initial telephone or video consultation lasting approximately 15 minutes, giving us an opportunity to introduce ourselves, discuss what brings you to therapy and consider whether we're a good fit.
Thereafter, I offer weekly 50-minute sessions at £70 per session.
I'm also mindful that cost can be a barrier to accessing counselling, and reserve a limited number of appointments at a concessionary rate. We can discuss this during our initial consultation if appropriate.
My first session
Our first session will last 50 minutes and cost £70, just like subsequent sessions.
I appreciate that starting therapy can feel unfamiliar or even daunting, and we'll take things at a pace that feels comfortable for you. This first session provides an opportunity for us to get to know one another, explore what has brought you to therapy and begin to understand what you might hope to gain from our work together.
There is no obligation to continue beyond this first session. You'll have the opportunity to reflect on how you feel about working with me and, should you wish to proceed, we can agree on a regular weekly appointment that suits us both.
Please feel free to email me if you'd like to discuss anything further or arrange an initial consultation.
