About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Cat and I’d like to extend a warm welcome to my practice, Clear Quartz Counselling & Holistic Wellbeing. I’m an experienced, integrative counsellor (MBACP), working therapeutically with adults and teenagers for over 20 years in several professional roles including family support, youth justice, public health, prisons and talking therapies.
Whilst working in talking therapies, I both heard and felt the frustrations of clients who wanted more connection, space to process and therapeutic depth from their sessions, which for many reasons the current model couldn’t provide. This fuelled my passion to offer a personalised and authentic private practice, working at your pace and focusing on the things that matter to you.
I understand how important it is to have someone trustworthy to talk to when everyday life becomes challenging. I also understand how difficult it can be to make that first move to attend counselling.
At some time in our lives, many of us will experience life difficulties such as stress, anxiety, grief, depression, work issues, financial worries, family and relationship problems, isolation and loneliness, to name but a few.
Sometimes we can find ourselves in situations that seem too difficult to overcome, or we can feel stuck and at a loss to know how to proceed. Life can sometimes feel too challenging, overwhelming or frightening. Sometimes it may not be possible or might feel too difficult to talk to family or friends about our concerns.
I offer you a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space for you to explore those challenging thoughts, emotions and behaviours with empathetic understanding, warmth and compassion.
I will support you through your processing of difficult feelings and everyday life challenges and will help you find a sense of clarity and calm. You will gain a deeper understanding of personal authenticity, self-knowledge and self-awareness as you begin your journey towards inner change, growth and development.
Practice description
As a qualified, BACP registered counsellor, I work within the BACP’s Ethical Framework, which holds your safety and wellbeing as central. My core training is Person Centred Therapy (Humanistic). However, I’ve completed further training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis (TA) I have recently completed training in Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT/tapping) and Rewind Trauma Therapy (RTT) and am fulfilling my practice hours. I am also a Reiki master/teacher.
By working integratively, I utilise a breadth of knowledge and techniques from both psychotherapy and alternative therapies, based on your personal preferences and therapy goals. In particular, the fusion of person-centred with CBT is highly effective and collaborative, integrating non-directive and directive ways of working to suit your individual needs and acknowledging your role as the expert on self with the effectiveness of goal orientated tools and techniques.
I offer face to face counselling as well as online and via telephone. My therapy room in Birchwood Warrington is a fully accessible, safe and non-judgmental space where you are met with warmth, openness and compassion. I will facilitate your journey, supporting you to uncover your true self, purpose and direction, whilst gaining a new and more meaningful perspective on your life story. My aim is to help you to step towards discovery and fulfilment of your potential, by helping you align your life with what matters to you.
Qualifications:
• CPCAB Level 4: Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
• PGCert in IAPT Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
• TA101: Introductory Transactional Analysis 101
• CPCAB Level 3: Certificate in Counselling Skills
• NCFE CACHE Level 2: Certificate in Counselling Skills
• City & Guilds Level 3: Health Trainer
• City & Guilds Level 4: Certificate in Further Education Teaching
• BSc Psychology with Human Behavioural Sciences (British Psychological Society Graduate Basis for Registration)
My first session
I offer a complementary 15 minute introductory call to explore what you would like to get out of counselling, how we may work together and to see if I am the right counsellor for you. If following our initial conversation you decide you would like to book your first session, the initial counselling session will give us a chance to see how this feels.
We will start by completing an assessment, exploring what is happening in your life, why you have sought counselling at this time, and what you would like to get from it. This will inform the direction of our sessions together. We may also complete some routine outcome measure questionnaires, which can be helpful to highlight additional areas you may wish to focus on. From a CBT perspective I am experienced in goal setting and formulation, working to an agenda, however if you would like a more non-directive form of counselling I can work intergratively and at a gentler pace.
I offer a flexible approach to the frequency and number of sessions, offering both short-term and long-term counselling based on what works for you. Sessions are the standard 50 minutes in length and would usually be at the same time and day each week. We will regularly review our sessions to check in with your goals for therapy and to reflect on and acknowledge what has changed.
