About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Cate, and as a relational therapist, I offer a warm and supportive space for children, young people, adults and families to explore what they are going through and find ways forward together. My work is collaborative and shaped around each person, helping everyone feel heard, build resilience and strengthen the relationships that matter to them.
I have supported children, young people, adults, families and groups in a range of community, school and therapeutic settings across North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside, Gateshead and Newcastle. A key part of my work is supporting children and families affected by domestic abuse, always with compassion, care and respect for each person’s pace and experience.
My approach is gentle, collaborative and trauma informed. Whether I am working with a child, young person, adult or family, I aim to work alongside you rather than simply direct the process, drawing on creative ways of working where helpful and offering space for healing, emotional growth and a stronger sense of confidence in yourself and your relationships.
I believe our relationships—with others and with ourselves—play an important part in how we feel, cope and make sense of the world around us. These connections can shape our wellbeing, our confidence and the way we move through life’s challenges.
Therapy with me is gentle, collaborative and shaped around you. Whether you are hoping to understand yourself more deeply, find your way through family difficulties, support your child’s emotional wellbeing, or help a young person feel more understood, we can work together at a pace that feels safe, thoughtful and meaningful.
Practice description
In my work with children and adolescents, I use creative approaches such as play therapy and art therapy to help young clients express themselves in a way that feels natural and comfortable. For adults and families, I focus on open communication and creating lasting, positive change through practical strategies and deep emotional work.
I believe that therapy is a process of connection—whether it’s understanding your own feelings, building stronger relationships with others, or finding the courage to confront the challenges life brings. As a relational therapist, I focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship with each client, based on trust, empathy, and mutual respect. This connection provides a safe space for clients to explore their experiences, emotions, and behaviours.
My philosophy is centred around the belief that the way we connect with others plays a central role in our emotional and mental well-being. I work from the perspective that relationships—whether with family, friends, or oneself—are key to understanding and addressing the concerns you may be facing. My approach is client-centred, meaning that I tailor each session to your unique needs, whether you are an individual seeking personal growth or a family wanting to improve communication and strengthen bonds.
I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Transactional Analysis, Person Centred, Attachment-Based Therapy, and Play Therapy, to create a personalised experience. This allows me to work effectively with clients of all ages, from children to adults, while addressing a wide range of emotional and behavioural concerns.
