About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Shelly, an integrative counsellor based in Whitley Bay
I’d describe myself as down to earth, approachable and someone who genuinely enjoys getting to know people. Deciding to have counselling isn’t always an easy decision, and sometimes even making that first contact can feel like a lot. You don’t need to have everything worked out before coming to see me, or know exactly what you want to say.
We can start wherever feels right for you.
I work with adults and young people and have experience supporting people with a range of difficulties, including anxiety, low mood, relationships, grief, trauma and confidence. I also have a particular interest in neurodiversity and understand that everyone’s experience is different.
As an integrative counsellor, I don’t believe in one approach fitting everyone. I draw on different ways of working and adapt sessions around you, your circumstances and what you feel would be helpful. Sometimes that might mean talking things through, sometimes looking at patterns or thoughts, and sometimes using something a little more creative.
For me, the relationship between counsellor and client is really important. I want you to feel comfortable enough to be yourself, without feeling judged or that you have to put on a front.
Practice description
I offer counselling for adults and young people aged 12+ across North Tyneside, with face to face sessions in Whitley Bay and Tynemouth, as well as online sessions.
You may be coming to counselling because you're struggling with anxiety, low mood, relationships, confidence or self-esteem, or because something has happened that you're finding difficult to deal with.
I work in an integrative way, using different approaches depending on what you need. I have a person-centred approach at the heart of my work, so sessions are shaped around you and what feels right for you.
My first session
If you decide to go ahead, the first session is about getting to know each other and talking about what’s brought you to counselling. Sessions are relaxed and conversational. Some weeks might be slower paced, giving you space to talk things through, while other sessions might be more focused, with practical ideas or things to try between sessions.
It really depends on what you need at the time.
