About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Charlotte. I’m an integrative therapist. I work with people of all ages to improve their sense of fulfilment and meaning in life.
Life can often feel tough and overwhelming, but it’s ok to not be ok. Each day can bring new obstacles that demand new adaptability and courage to overcome. And it’s through these difficulties that we grow — finding new strength and hope.
My therapeutic approach is based around working collaboratively to achieve change — whatever that may look like for the individual I’m working with. This integrative therapeutic counselling approach helps to gain an understanding of the client’s past and present challenges, supporting them in their own discovery and building self-confidence.
As a counsellor, my role is to hold a collaborative space for the client to explore their world and challenges, with the aim of building resilience and working towards a resolutions. This requires creating a space where the client can be open and honest without fear of being judged. This vulnerability is met with empathy, understanding and compassion, with each session tailored to best suit the client’s individual needs.
I offer a flexible approach to therapy; what works brilliantly for one person may not be the best approach for you. We work together to find the best way, whether creative methods might help you to make sense of what you’re experiencing, or whether you’re more comfortable simply talking.
Therapy can be daunting or even confusing, and the reasons behind it can be sensitive.
Don’t worry: you are in safe hands.
Hummingbird Hope Therapy for young people, students & adults - Specialist counselling through the difficult times of life.
Therapy that helps you to find hope amongst life’s storms. Exploring Identity. Finding Belonging. Building Resilience.
Practice description
Once you’ve sent me a message, we’ll arrange a free 20-minute phone call — this helps me learn a little about you and your reason for contacting me. It also gives you the chance to get a sense of who I am and how I work and to ask any questions so we can agree to working together.
Naturally, the way things work will vary depending on the type of client — for example arranging therapy for a child or teenager will look very different for an adult who self-refers.
What I offer:
Face-to-face sessions in my confidential therapeutic space near Whitstable in Kent. I work from a cabin space and there is a short walk from the street There is parking on the street outside of the property. In our initial session, I will meet you at the front of the property and show you to the therapy room.
Online therapy sessions via Zoom
Walk and Talk therapy sessions along the beautiful Kentish coastal routes near Whitstable & Herne Bay
My first session
Adult Therapy:
When we go ahead with our first session, we will discuss and agree our therapeutic working contract and your expectations. I will ask you questions in order help me understand you and your reasons for starting counselling and we can then agree on your goals and the regularity of your therapy sessions.
During our time together, we will periodically review your counselling experience to reflect on your progress and how you are finding the therapeutic relationship, which can also help us to work towards completion and endings.
Teenanger/Child Therapy:
Once you’ve sent me a message, I will e-mail you a client referral form. Your answers will help me assess the suitability of working with your child or young person.
From here we’ll arrange an initial assessment appointment with you, the parent/carer/guardian. This session is for you to meet me, sharing your concerns, as well as for me to learn more about your child/young person. During this meeting I’ll share how I work and we will formulate a plan for regular sessions, as well as regular reviews to discuss our ongoing working alliance for the well-being of the young person. We will also discuss and agree a contract.
When we go ahead with the first session, I generally invite the parent/carer/guardian to attend until the child feels comfortable for them to leave (especially for children under 14 years of age). I will explain a contract of working together with the child/young person and begin to develop the therapeutic relationship.
After the initial session I will continue to work together with the child/young person to explore their world and the areas they wish to focus on using a child/young person-led approach. This may involve play, art, games, creative expression or talk therapy.
