About me and my therapy practice
I offer a warm, authentic and non-judgemental space that values you as the expert in your experience. I work with children aged 11+ and adults offering a relational and developmental approach. My core training is Humanistic and Integrative which means I draw from many theories and adapt my approach to suit your unique individual needs.
Our work is collaborative and our sessions are guided by what feels important to you, building on trust as the foundation of our therapeutic relationship. My aim is to offer a supportive space where you feel safe enough to reflect upon your life experiences, gaining further understanding of yourself and default ways of coping. I can support you to explore past and/or present issues that are affecting your life, you might be feeling anxious, overwhelmed or experiencing a low mood. You might be seeking to understand your childhood or past experiences and bearing an untold story. You might not know why you feel the way that you do, together we can explore this and begin to make meaning of your life experiences.
Our nervous systems are the blueprints of our life experiences, influencing whether we respond or react, withdraw or shutdown. Having a space where you can begin to understand how you encounter the world can assist your healing journey on a deeper level. I can support you in recognising relational patterns that may be keeping you stuck, identifying triggers and developing new ways of coping.
Alongside supporting adults, the past 4 years I have worked in education settings, as a school and college counsellor. Supporting young people aged 11-18 I have a sound understanding of the challenges young people face.
Seeking support can feel daunting, yet you are here willing to take the first step. I invite you to get in touch, where we can arrange a free 15 minute introductory call to discuss your reasons for seeking therapy and if we would be a good fit.
Practice description
I value working holistically with all parts of a person, the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual parts that make us who we are. Each part of you deserves to be seen, valued and accepted just as you are. There maybe parts of you that you are unable to accept, past experiences that you find challenging to talk about. Whatever your presenting issues are we can work collaboratively to achieves your goals.
When/if appropriate, I may introduce a gentle body based somatic approach, our bodies can store so much of what we hold emotionally which can impact our general wellbeing. This may be inviting you to notice physical sensations within your body, becoming more aware of your breath, and grounding exercises, with the intention of deepening your understanding self. This can ease emotional overwhelm and regulate the nervous system, increasing your sense of safety. When we allow ourselves to slow down and really notice, this is where healing can begin. This way of working can be especially helpful if you experience anxiety.
My first session
I offer a free 15 minute introductory call where we discuss your presenting issues, why you are seeking support and if we feel we could work well together. The therapeutic relationship is key to the best outcomes, therefore I understand the importance of choosing the right therapist that you connect with.
In our first session we may explore more about your life experiences and the impact they have had on you, we can also reflect on what you would like your future to look like and explore any goals you have or a focus for our work.
