About me and my therapy practice
You might be used to masking, overthinking, or feeling “too much” or “not enough” in other spaces. If you are neurodivergent, anxious, or exhausted from trying to make yourself fit, counselling can feel especially daunting. I offer a calm, understanding space where you don’t have to explain or justify who you are.
As a neurodivergent counsellor with both professional training and lived experience of ADHD and autism, I bring a genuine understanding of the challenges that can arise when seeking therapy. I am particularly mindful of how overwhelming or unsafe traditional counselling spaces can sometimes feel, and I work collaboratively with you to make therapy accessible, comfortable, and supportive from the very first session.
Practice description
I work integratively, drawing on person-centred counselling, psychodynamic counselling, and CBT. This allows sessions to be shaped around your individual needs rather than following a fixed approach. Above all, my role is to listen with empathy, curiosity, and without judgement, so that you feel heard and understood.
Our work together may include gently exploring past experiences, noticing patterns that affect your day-to-day life, or introducing practical tools that can help things feel more manageable. Each session is led by you, and we move at a pace that feels right for you.
At Meadowbrook Counselling, I offer a safe, accepting space for adults aged 18 and over. My aim is to support you in developing greater self-understanding, self-compassion, and confidence in navigating life in a way that works for you.
My first session
In our initial appointment, we will explore what helps you feel at ease and able to engage at your own pace. This might involve small but meaningful adjustments to how we work together. Counselling is different from coaching. I won’t give advice or tell you what to do, but instead, I will support you to explore who you are, what is happening for you, and how this connects with your thoughts, emotions, and experiences.
First, we’ll go through the counselling agreement. This outlines what to expect from our work together, the role you play in your commitment to the process, my role in supporting you, and the terms of confidentiality. You’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions or request clarification before signing.
Next, we’ll complete a registration form, which asks for your contact details, an emergency contact, GP details, and information about adoption and neurodiversity.
We’ll then complete a symptom assessment to establish a baseline for anxiety and depression, which we’ll review together every six sessions to track progress.
Once the paperwork is complete, we’ll focus on you. We will explore what’s been happening for you and what you hope to gain from counselling. You never have to discuss anything before you feel ready; if something feels too difficult, we can pause and revisit it when you choose.
The first session is a paid, full 50-minute appointment, which gives us both a chance to see whether working together feels like a good fit. You’re always in control of what happens next.
