About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I am Sarah, a qualified integrative counsellor. The integrative approach combines various modalities and theories which weave together an environment to support people to heal in a way that is true to themselves.

Like many, I have experienced traumatic and unpleasant life events, and I innately knew I needed to heal. It was through my journey of self-exploration that I realised I wanted to support others on their pathway of self-discovery and healing.

I believe my willingness to deeply and profoundly explore my inner world, means I can support you to go to the depths that feel comfortable for you in your therapeutic journey.

My practice comes from a place of self-inquiry and lived experience. I have spent my adult life in various supporting roles: working with men and women using somatic and hands on therapies, working with adults in hospice settings, supporting young people and their families, and running women’s groups.

Alongside my traditional training in counselling, I hold a keen interest in the healing power of nature and have trained in alternative approaches such as Shamanic practices. I hold a degree in Chinese medicine and acupuncture and have trained in several other healing modalities.

Practice description

My approach has been described by previous clients as supportive, collaborative, safe and honest. I am broad-minded, inclusive of all folks, bringing equality and a sense of belonging into the counselling environment.

We will work at your own pace and time. It is important that you feel comfortable and safe. Therefore, I draw upon the person-centred approach to create a supportive and compassionate environment, which encourages self-enquiry without fear of judgement or criticism.

As an integrative counsellor I draw upon different modalities to nurture internal resources that develop self-awareness and cultivate an environment for personal growth and change.

We may work with psychodynamic theories, to explore how past experiences influence the here and now; it is through this understanding that change can be initiated, and self-acceptance can be embraced.

Working with polyvagal theory provides exploration into our understanding of how we move through and engage with the world, when we are connecting or disconnecting, and how we can learn to self-regulate during times of distress.

If appropriate we may incorporate nature-based practices into the therapeutic space. And as a Somatic Trauma Informed therapist and body worker for over twenty years we may look to the body to explore the unconscious through the felt sense.

This journey isn't always easy, and at times it may feel challenging. My role is to walk with you, supporting you to make sense of your lived experience and find resilience and self-acceptance to initiate change.

I offer face-to-face, outdoor walk and talk, and online sessions.

My first session

Our first session is an introductory meeting which averages around 20 minutes. This is a no fee discussion which enables you to meet with me to see if I am a good match for you, and whether it feels right for us to work together.

I charge £50 per therapy hour, but I do offer some concessions as I believe all people have the right to access this type of therapy, and therefore want to provide the opportunity to people who are on low income, or in receipt of benefits. These spaces are limited and won’t always be available. This can be discussed at the introductory session.

For those who can afford and would like to “pay it forward”, donations are welcome to help others in less financially stable situations access this service.
