About me and my therapy practice

I am an integrative therapist. I believe therapy is not ‘one size fits all’, but about understanding who you are and working with your individual needs.

At the heart of my work is an authentic therapeutic relationship, built on empathy, respect, trust, and warmth. From this foundation, we can create a space where you feel safe to explore whatever challenges you may be facing, at your own pace. This is your therapy — you set the direction.

My approach draws on a range of perspectives, including psychodynamic theory, Gestalt, attachment theory, transactional analysis, narrative therapy and existential approaches. Alongside this, my background as a trained massage therapist informs a somatic awareness in my work. I also value the practical insights offered by CBT, particularly in developing behavioural awareness.

Alongside all of this theory, I believe in humour. When it arises naturally, laughter can be a meaningful part of emotional expression. Therapy can be heavy work, and moments of lightness can help make that work feel more manageable. As Victor Borge said, “Laughter is the shortest distance between two people.” I believe that sense of connection lies at the heart of effective therapy.

I also offer walking therapy. Sessions are planned collaboratively, taking into account your preferences and physical ability, and take place in safe, appropriate environments. As in the therapy room, you lead the process.

I offer 50-minute sessions, either face-to-face or online. I also provide support via email and text. Walking therapy sessions begin from the first step.

Pet therapy with my working cocker spaniel can also be arranged.

Practice description

My therapeutic style is compassionate and empathetic — but that doesn’t mean I will simply sit quietly, nod and say “mm”. I will engage with you, hear you, and see you as one adult to another.

My goal is to understand your outlook, your experiences, your aspirations and beliefs. But it is your goals that matter most, and I will treat them with the same importance as you do. I aim to create an environment of trust, safety, and understanding. There is also space for laughter. It is not taboo in my therapy room — as long as it arises naturally, and feels authentic and real. It can be an important part of how we connect, process, and find relief.

The safety of our space is what makes it possible to explore both pain and possibility. It offers an opportunity to explore and gently challenge patterns, consider new perspectives, and develop deeper insight. What is your story? Your sense of purpose? And what is your way forward?

At times we may even disagree — I would hope so. You challenging me is part of an equal therapeutic relationship. What matters most is that we work together with a shared sense of direction and respect.

As a qualified massage therapist, I also bring an awareness of the connection between mind and body. Emotional strain is often held physically, and together we can begin to notice and understand the signals your body may be sending, developing ways to respond with care and intention.

Therapy can be demanding. It takes time, energy, and commitment. But it can also be a profound and meaningful experience. It may, at times, be painful — but also enlightening, powerful, even joyful and funny. Whatever arises, we explore it together.

My first session

Our first session is a free mutual assessment to ascertain whether you feel comfortable working with me, and vice versa. We will discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, your expectations and your hopes for a positive outcome.  You may be asked to fill out a questionnaire. Boundaries and contract will be outlined. If you choose to work with me, we will agree on a schedule of sessions. If you believe you would be better served elsewhere there will be no charge and no further obligations.
