About me and my therapy practice
I am a trauma-informed Humanistic Counsellor with a focus in LGBTQ+ issues and I strive to help people feel empowered and have autonomy over their lives again. Therapy can be a huge awakening and transformative investment into our wellbeing. It can be confronting and messy yet be exactly what we need at the same time. I am here to guide you and sit alongside you throughout this experience.
My wish is to provide a private, confidential space with enough trust and security to help you navigate life, have a deeper understanding of yourself or others and help process your thoughts and feelings. A Humanistic approach views each person as a unique individual and allows you the choice to decide who you want to be and how you want to live. I often work both creatively and somatically as our embodied and non verbal experiences are just as important to express.
I believe that we all deserve to have agency over our lives, but many of us find ourselves feeling powerless, lost, discontent or in despair. Not only can our personal lives be challenging, the world we live in can make those challenges even harder to navigate. I consider the systemic structures that affect us both collectively and individually.
I am Sex Worker Friendly and my practice supports neurodiverse people.
Practice description
My therapeutic approach is client led, allowing you to take direction of your counselling rather me telling you what to do, whilst still offering gentle challenge, curiosity and insights. I incorporate the mind-body connection and somatic awareness as our embodied experience is just as important as the words we speak. The questions, 'How do I want to live?' and 'Who do I want to be?' are fundamental themes that can be deeply explored in my room. I believe reflecting on these questions are how we learn to show up in life in a way that supports us, through the good, bad and everything in between.
Before starting my practice I was a volunteer counsellor with MindOut for over two years, gaining experience in LGBTQ+ issues and supporting trans people. I currently work with many transgender people and welcome them to reach out.
My first session
Before getting started, I offer a free 30 minute phone consultation to see if we'd like to work together. The first session will involve a brief assessment where I can get a sense of where you're at and what you'd like to explore. The counselling is there to best fit your needs, whether you're looking for a few sessions or want something longer. Sessions will be on the same day and time on a weekly basis.
I appreciate just how daunting the first session can be and I will do my best to create a friendly atmosphere that will put you at ease.
