About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Ellie.

Taking the first step towards therapy can feel daunting, especially if you’ve been carrying things on your own for a long time. Whether you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, struggling with relationships, processing trauma or grief, or simply feeling stuck, therapy can offer a space to slow down, make sense of your experiences and reconnect with yourself.

As a relational integrative psychotherapist and counsellor, I believe that the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of meaningful change. I offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can feel genuinely heard and accepted, allowing us to explore whatever has brought you to therapy at a pace that feels right for you.

Rather than following a single therapeutic model, I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches to meet your individual needs. My work is influenced by attachment theory, psychodynamic psychotherapy, relational psychotherapy, Jungian psychology, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis and creative approaches. This means therapy is tailored to you, recognising that every person’s story, relationships and experiences are unique.

I work with adults, young people and children experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties, with particular interests in attachment, developmental trauma, anxiety, self-esteem, identity, relationships, grief and loss, and the lasting impact of early life experiences.

My aim is not to “fix” you, but to help you better understand yourself, develop healthier ways of coping and create lasting change that extends beyond the therapy room.

Practice description

I offer both face-to-face therapy in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and secure online sessions across the UK.

Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place weekly, as regular sessions provide the greatest opportunity for building a strong therapeutic relationship and creating meaningful, lasting change. Where appropriate, fortnightly sessions can also be discussed.

Some people come to therapy with a clear difficulty they would like support with, while others simply know that something doesn’t feel right. Both are equally welcome. Together we will explore your thoughts, feelings, relationships and experiences to develop a deeper understanding of what may be contributing to your current difficulties.

My approach is collaborative, compassionate and grounded in curiosity rather than judgement. I won’t tell you what to do or offer quick fixes, but I will work alongside you to help you gain insight, build resilience and move towards the life you want to live.

I am committed to providing therapy that is ethical, inclusive and affirming for people from all backgrounds and identities. Alongside regular clinical supervision, I actively engage in continuing professional development to ensure my practice remains informed by current research and best practice.

My first session

Beginning therapy can naturally feel a little nerve-racking, so my aim is to make our first session feel as comfortable and welcoming as possible.

Our first appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We’ll explore what has brought you to therapy, what you hope to gain from our work together and any relevant background that feels important to share. I’ll also explain how I work, answer any questions you may have and discuss practical aspects such as confidentiality, boundaries and how sessions are structured.

There is no expectation to tell me everything during our first meeting. We will work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

By the end of the session, we’ll have a clearer understanding of whether we feel like a good fit for working together. Finding the right therapist is important, and I encourage you to choose someone you feel safe and comfortable with.
