About me and my therapy practice

Life can be very challenging for children and teenagers and sometimes they need someone neutral who can help them to understand their thoughts and feelings in a safe and nurturing environment, using creative arts, as well as other mediums to help with self expression.

I work with children and young people using play therapy and creative arts counselling. The work is led by the client so that sessions can be adapted to meet the client's individual needs.

Practice description

The principle of my work is to help my client in the best way possible so they get as much out of the sessions as they can in order to thrive in their daily lives.

I have a wide variety of experience of working therapeutically with children in Mozambique and the UK, who come from different backgrounds and have had to deal with different experiences, including ACEs.

My room is based at Treehouse Wellbeing in Lutterworth and the room is full of different tools for children and young people to express themselves, including puppets, sand, clay, art and craft equipment, role play toys, games, instruments. The child uses the time to express themselves in the way that is best for them.

My first session

I offer a free telephone conversation with parents/carers to discuss the child or young person's need for therapy and to explain more about play therapy and creative arts counselling.

If the family want to go ahead, a parent consultation and assessment is offered. Following this, in the first session, the client has the opportunity to see and use some of the creative 'toolkit' that I use in sessions, including clay, sand tray, puppets, art, books. The kit is adaptable depending on the age of the client. It is also an opportunity to build a relationship with the child/young person and get to know each other.

In the first session, it's a time for the child to get to know me and the room and for me to get to know them. They have an opportunity to explore what's in the room and I explain about how the sessions can help.
