About me and my therapy practice
Do you feel anxious, stressed and overwhelmed? Maybe you're exhausted by the weight of everything you are carrying? Perhaps you're here because you know you need help, but you're not really sure what that help looks like?
I can give you the freedom to tell your story and the support and empowerment needed to be curious, explore, create change, and find a new way forward.
You may be grappling with a specific problem that you hope to resolve, or you may just feel a sense of dissatisfaction, anxiety, or unhappiness, and want to discover why and how this can change.
You are unique, and so how we work together will also be unique, but I can help you explore any issues, working together to deepen your self-awareness, emotional processing and resilience.
Though you may struggle to accept this at first, I believe you are the expert on yourself and I will support you in finding different perspectives to effectively face current challenges and past issues.
Client testimonials:
"Working with Marie has been a transformative experience. I gained a deeper understanding of my emotions, how I relate to others, and learned to cultivate self-compassion."
"I felt heard and safe; I could talk about everything. The insights and techniques really healed a lot of issues. I feel ready for life again."
"Marie is a fabulous counsellor. I now have lots of takeaways to help manage my anxiety. Sessions helped improve my confidence and communication."
"I came to see Marie at my lowest ebb... She helped me cope, and she made me feel heard and that I mattered. She is a special person."
"I highly recommend Marie. She was excellent at asking insightful questions to encourage deeper reflection, while also pushing back or challenging when what I was saying was confused or unclear."
Practice description
I find the flexibility and creativity of an integrative approach helps me personalise therapy for each of my clients.
Before training as a counsellor, I worked for over 25 years in the corporate publishing sector. I also have lived experience of the impact of redundancy, and have supported a family member with anxiety, panic disorder and depression, which have all helped shape my professional counselling journey.
My training, qualifications and experience
- Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling, Middlesex University
- Registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC).
- I also work for an Oxford-based low-cost counselling agency and a counselling membership body.
Continuing Professional Development, including:
- Neurodivergence in the counselling room
- Building trust in counselling
- Mindfulness
- Trauma and the Body: Dissociation and Somatisation
- Working with Relational Trauma: Dealing with disorganised attachment
My first session
What happens next?
Making contact by email first is usually best. Then we can arrange an initial, free, no-obligation, 20-minute online or phone conversation. This will give you the chance to ask questions and explain why you are looking for therapy, and for me to explain how I work, which will help us decide if we can work well together.
Email me at mariehoopercounselling@gmail.com or call/text on 07418 602505 (leave a message and I will get back to you).
Our first session together will be slightly different in that we will complete a more detailed assessment and also review the counselling contract. Working together, we establish goals for your therapy and we regularly review effectiveness to ensure the counselling is meeting your needs.
Most of my clients see a gradual improvement within the first few weeks.
