About me and my therapy practice

About me:

I have extensive experience supporting people affected by loss, complex trauma, and significant life events. I understand how overwhelming life can feel and the importance of having someone who can remain present with you, even when things feel difficult or uncertain, to help you reconnect with your body.

I believe therapy doesn’t have to start and end with two people sitting in chairs; I encourage craft, movement, and your comfort. My approach is informed by my diploma in Gestalt counselling, and my background in art, crafts, and textiles.

I aim to provide an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed service, and I partake in continued professional development to best support my clients.

I am open about my life as a gay transgender man. I feel this is important to disclose for those looking for therapy with an LGBT+ specific therapist, however my identity isn’t what’s most important in the therapy room.

Specialities:

- Supporting people through loss, bereavement, chronic and terminal illness, caring responsibilities, experiencing traumatic life events including being the victim of crime (Reported or otherwise).

- Adverse childhood experiences, adult children of alcoholics and narcotic users, former child carers of parents, and childhood sexual assault survivors.

-Your experience of religion, spirituality, how you connect with the world around you, and what may be beyond.

- Gender expression and identity, transitioning and exploration, sexuality, relationships, and other LGBTQIA+ experiences.

I have a particular interest in the many forms of loss we experience throughout life—including bereavement, changes in identity, childhood experiences, illness, relationship endings and the quieter grief of what was never received. I believe that making space for these losses can be an important part of reconnecting with ourselves.

Practice description

Our Sessions:

I offer weekly 50 minute sessions both online and face-to-face in central Brighton.

I understand money can be a barrier to accessing therapy. I can offer both long term weekly therapy, and 8 session short term solution focused therapy, but please be aware that short term therapy is not suitable for complex trauma or multiple subjects, we can discuss your needs during a 15 minute initial consultation.

As a Gestalt counselor, I believe that healing begins through awareness, genuine connection and the therapeutic relationship itself. Together, we'll pay attention not only to your thoughts and feelings, but also to what is happening in your body, your relationships and your experience in the present moment. Often, our bodies hold stories that words alone cannot express, and by listening to them with curiosity, creativity and compassion, we can begin to understand ourselves more deeply.

We can use different creative outlets to get in tune not just with our thoughts, but the feeling behind them and how they are affecting us now. This can look like creative dialogue, using art materials, using the body and its movements (or lack of), or exploring imagery and the metaphorical.

My aim is to offer a warm, accepting and compassionate space where you can slow down, feel truly heard, and explore whatever you bring without judgement.

My practice is informed by an appreciation of the connection between our emotional and physical experiences. Difficult emotions, trauma and unresolved grief can often be felt in the body through tension, exhaustion, numbness or a sense of disconnection. Rather than seeing these experiences as something to overcome, I invite us to become curious about what they might be communicating. By bringing awareness to both mind and body, we can begin to reconnect with ourselves in ways that feel grounding, authentic and compassionate.
