About me and my therapy practice

Hi my name is Melanie and I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I am a Person Centred Counsellor which means that I place you at the heart of our work together.  I am a great believer that one of the most important things about counselling is the relationship you have with your therapist, so equally it is important to find the right fit for you!

I understand on a personal level and having sat in both chairs in the counselling room, that reaching out for counselling can feel daunting, However I also experienced how powerful it can feel for someone to really listen, without judgement.

You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed , low in mood or unsure where to begin.  My hope is that through reading my profile, you will gain a sense of whether I may feel like the right counsellor for you.

Counselling is about connection and growth, helping you make sense of your own experiences

Practice description

As a person centred counsellor, I believe that each individual is unique and that you are the expert on your own life and experiences, the direction, pace and focus always belongs to you in each of our sessions.

I offer a safe, confidential and respectful space where you control what you would like to share and work through, or maybe to understand yourself better.

My role is not to judge, advise or analyse, but to offer a theraputic relationship built on trust, empathy, acceptance and genuine understanding as well as feeling understood.

From time to time, I like to pause and gently review how our sessions are feeling for you, its a simple way of checking in together to make sure that our work is meeting your needs, and remains guided by what feels most helpful for you.

My first session

I offer an initial phone session, which usually lasts around 20 minutes.  This is a gentle opportunity to get to know about you, during the session, we may talk a little about your wellbeing and anything that feels important for you to share, including any relevant physical or mental health concerns.

You are in control of what you choose to talk about, and there is no pressure to share more than you feel ready for.

This session also gives you space to think about what you might like from counselling and to ask any questions you may have.  It is also for you to get a sense of how counselling may support you.

* All information shared is treated with care and confidentiality.*
