About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Claire, and therapy with me is a shared journey. You don’t need to have the right words or know where to start; we can figure that out together. My role is to walk alongside you with patience, warmth, and respect, helping you build confidence, strengthen your sense of self, and move towards the changes you want.

Many clients I work with struggle with anxiety, depression and feeling overwhelmed. This can leave you feeling alone and unheard, affecting your relationship with yourself and others. If any of this resonates, therapy with me can offer a safe space to talk and be heard.

By creating safety and stability, our sessions provide a calm, compassionate environment where you can begin to make sense of your experiences and identify patterns in your life. Together, we can explore practical ways to help you feel more grounded, understood, and in control.

My approach is Person-Centred, which means you are the expert of your own thoughts and feelings, and I support you in understanding your emotions, experiences, and hopes at a pace that feels safe and manageable, accepting you as you are.

Most importantly, counselling is about finding someone you feel comfortable with, even if previous counselling has not been positive; we can find a way forward, and  I would be honoured to work with you.

I will combine theory and my experience of work with complex trauma, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, and overwhelm. Some of these include, but are not limited to, childhood and adult sexual abuse, domestic abuse, relational trauma, bereavement, and challenges associated with being neurodivergent.

I’m a BACP-registered Humanistic and Integrative Counsellor with an MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy. If you’re looking for a supportive, understanding space to talk, heal, and feel more like yourself again, you’ve taken the first step by searching for support. If it feels overwhelming, please feel free to email me with any questions to help you decide if counselling is right for you.

Practice description

In my practice, you can expect a confidential, compassionate, robust and non-judgmental space, where, working in a trauma-informed way, your experiences are heard and respected. I will be open, honest and consistent in my work with you.

I offer a free initial call lasting approximately 20 minutes for informational purposes; this is not therapy or an assessment, but an opportunity to ask questions and discuss your needs. Before starting therapy, I offer a full assessment session to explore your goals and ensure my approach is right for you. I will always try to signpost you to other services or therapists if we feel I am not the best fit for you.

Standard sessions are 50 minutes, usually weekly, though frequency can be adjusted to suit your needs.

I work in private practice as well as providing bereavement counselling for the NHS, alongside working within a trauma recovery service in Dorset.

As a previous business owner and someone who has balanced family life for over two decades, I understand the pressures of juggling responsibilities, stress and anxiety, which has given me real-life insight into challenges within everyday life, enriching my role as a counsellor with genuine empathy.

I aim to respond to all enquiries within 48 hours and will find a time that works best for you.

My first session

I understand that reaching out for therapy can feel overwhelming, especially if it’s a new experience or therapy hasn't worked previously. Taking that first step is often a brave decision, and it’s normal to have worries about what to say. I am here to reassure you and help you feel comfortable seeking answers to your questions and to understand your expectations.

If you are ready to take the next step. Please feel free to contact me, and I will be happy to chat through your queries or concerns. We can move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

If you do decide to proceed after our initial call, I will send out an agreement for you to read and retain and have the opportunity to ask further questions. We will also have an assessment to ensure we are meeting your needs, and agree on a focus and goal of what you would like to achieve from therapy.
