About me and my therapy practice
You may be struggling with anxiety, low mood or grief, facing difficulties in a relationship or family, worrying about a child or young person, dealing with work or life challenges, or significant trauma. Or you may be feeling stuck, as though life has somehow become smaller or harder than it used to be, and you'd like help untangling it all and finding some direction. Whatever has brought you here, there is no need to have it fully worked out before we begin.
I’m Oliver, a BACP-registered counsellor and psychotherapist offering face-to-face therapy in Market Drayton, Shropshire, and online by video. I have an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy (Distinction), specialist CPCAB Level 5 training in Counselling Children and Young People, and have completed an AFT-accredited Foundation course in Family Therapy: A Systemic Approach. I am currently undertaking further postgraduate studies in systemic family therapy. Alongside private practice, I work with Staffordshire Bereavement and Loss Support Service and Beechwood Cancer Care, and have previously worked as a school counsellor. My approach is integrative, thoughtful and conversational, shaped by psychological theory, lived experience and many years working with people across different cultures and settings. I bring curiosity, care and perspective to our work together, helping you make sense of what is happening and find ways forward that feel realistic and meaningful.
Practice description
My approach is integrative, which means I draw on different therapeutic ideas and psychological models according to the person, situation and what seems most useful. At the heart of my work is the relationship between us: therapy should feel like a genuine conversation between two people, rather than something being “done” to you.
I believe strongly in authenticity within the therapeutic relationship. You get to be yourself, and I get to be myself. I listen carefully, but may also ask questions, offer observations, help you notice patterns or explore different ways of understanding what is happening. Our work is confidential and conducted within BACP ethical and safeguarding guidelines.
Sometimes we may focus on the present; at other times it may be useful to explore earlier experiences, relationships or family patterns and how these continue to shape life now.
With children and young people, I adapt my approach to their age, personality and needs, using creative or practical approaches. My systemic training also means I consider relationships and the wider context around a difficulty, rather than viewing problems as belonging entirely to one person.
Having spent around 25 years living and working overseas in diverse cultural, professional and family settings, I have a particular interest in helping individuals, couples and families navigate intercultural relationships and the challenges of living between, adapting to or moving across different cultures. This may include questions of identity and belonging, differing expectations and values, or family and relationship tensions.
My aim is to help you gain perspective, understand yourself and your situation more clearly, and find ways forward that feel realistic and meaningful.
Sessions are available face-to-face in Market Drayton or online by video.
