About me and my therapy practice

My approach to counselling is rooted in the belief that you are the expert on your own life. I don't see my role as that of an advisor or director, but as a compassionate companion on your journey. I provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space, away from the pressures of everyday life.

I practice as an Integrative Counsellor, which means I draw on a range of therapeutic models to suit your individual needs and personality. At the core of my work is Transactional Analysis (TA). This powerful framework gives us a practical, accessible map to understand your personality, your communication styles, and the recurring patterns in your relationships. Through TA, we explore your internal "ego states"—Parent, Adult, and Child—and how these influence the way you interact with others and respond to life's challenges. We will examine the "life scripts" you may have unconsciously adopted in childhood, and work together to identify how these old narratives might still be shaping your present-day decisions and feelings. This awareness is transformative; it empowers you to step out of unhelpful cycles and make conscious, healthy choices in the here-and-now.

While TA forms our foundation, I also weave in elements of the Person-Centred approach to foster a warm, trusting therapeutic relationship. This blend allows us to focus on building self-awareness and understanding at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or simply feeling stuck, I will tailor our sessions to your unique circumstances. The first session is always an opportunity for us to meet, explore what brings you to counselling, and decide together on a way forward that feels right for you.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and I adhere to their ethical framework to ensure the highest standards of practice.

Practice description

My practice is built on creating a calm, private, and welcoming environment where you can bring your whole self without fear of judgment—even from a distance. I see counselling as a collaborative journey; I am not here to fix you, because I don't believe you are broken. Instead, I am here to walk alongside you, offering clarity, curiosity, and compassionate challenge when it's helpful.

When you work with me online or by phone, here is what you can expect:

A safe and confidential space. Your privacy is paramount. I adhere strictly to the BACP ethical framework, and our sessions are conducted from a secure, private location. I will also guide you on how to create your own safe, uninterrupted space for our calls or video sessions.

A warm, human connection. Even through a screen or over the phone, I bring my genuine self—attentive, respectful, and deeply interested in your story. The Person-Centred strand of my work means that our therapeutic relationship is central to everything we do.

A structured yet flexible approach. At the heart of our work is Transactional Analysis (TA). Together, we will explore your "ego states"—Parent, Adult, and Child—and uncover any limiting "life scripts" that keep you stuck. This gives you practical tools to understand yourself and choose different responses.

A pace that respects you. Some clients find clarity in a few sessions; others explore deeper layers over many months. I offer both short-term and long-term work.

Practical logistics. Sessions last 50 minutes and take place weekly, via Doxy.me, or telephone. Your first session is an opportunity to meet, share what brings you to counselling, and decide together if we are a good fit. There is no obligation to continue.

Ultimately, what you can expect from me is a reliable, ethical, and deeply human presence. I will hold hope for you even when you struggle to hold it for yourself, and I will support you in rediscovering your own inner strength, clarity, and capacity for change.

My first session

Your first session is about us getting to know each other. I know that taking this step can feel daunting, so my priority is to make you feel at ease from the moment you arrive or log on.

Before we begin, I will have already provided you with a counselling contract to review and sign. This outlines our working agreement, including confidentiality, fees, and cancellation policy, so we are both clear from the outset. I will answer any questions you have regarding the contract before we begin. This is your time, and I want you to feel fully informed and comfortable before we go any deeper.

From there, I will invite you to share what has brought you to counselling. There is no pressure to tell me everything at once. You can share as much or as little as feels right. I will listen carefully, not just to your words, but to what lies beneath them. I may ask gentle questions to help me understand your story and what you are hoping to gain from our work together.

I will also explain how I work, particularly my focus on Transactional Analysis, and we can explore whether my approach feels like a good fit for you. This session is as much for you to assess me as it is for me to understand you.

By the end, we will decide together on a way forward. There is no obligation to continue, the choice is always yours. My goal is simply to offer you a warm, professional, and welcoming start to your therapeutic journey.
