About me and my therapy practice

Combine Curiosity and Courage to lasting Freedom.

You deserve to feel fully present in your life—not held back by yesterday’s pain or hijacked by today’s worries and frustrations.

Find out why you feel this way and how to feel differently.

Overview

Hello, my name is Ricardo, I'm a psychotherapist and founder of Open Mind Therapy. My mission? To help people who feel stuck and held back by their own internal narratives to freedom.

Who I work with

I often work with high-functioning professionals, creatives, or students who look "fine" on the outside but are exhausted on the inside. Over-thinkers, people-pleasers and conflict avoiders (Anxiety) who criticize themselves constantly (Low Self-Esteem). Individuals who might be going through a breakup or fear one and those who are grieving from major life changes (Endings). Where previous therapy felt like just "venting" and led to no lasting change, OR have tried apps/CBT and felt it was too surface-level.

If any of these feel familiar to you and you want to understand why you are this way, but also want to stop feeling this way today, keep on reading to see how my approach can help you.

How We'll Work Together

• For the Anxious Mind: Find out why you feel unsafe and learn concrete tools from DBT to soothe your nervous system.

For the Critical Inner Voice: Uncover the roots of the harsh inner critic and practice how to assert your needs and boundaries until confidence becomes a habit, not just a wish.

• For Difficult Endings: I have a deep passion for helping clients navigate transitions. Whether you are recovering from a breakup or mourning a loss or facing big changes, I offer a space that honors your worries and grief while preventing it from defining your future.

Practice description

How I work

I adjust my practice to your needs by using tools from multiple modalities therefore working integratively. I focus mostly on:

  • Psychodynamic Therapy: We'll explore the unseen forces, early relationships, and unconscious patterns that shape your life. Turn confusion into clarity. Improve self-knowledge and gain insight.
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Skills: Obtain tangible tools from one of the 4 modules. Turn insight into action. Improve life skills and find freedom from painful patterns on repeat.

What I work with

I specialize in three core areas where the balance of understanding the past and managing the present creates the most profound change.

1) Endings & Transitions

Navigating breakups, grief, and closing life chapters.

• The Insight: We explore how early attachment wounds shape the way you grieve, helping you understand why letting go feels unsafe.

• The Skills: We use Distress Tolerance skills to help you "survive the wave" of grief without making impulsive decisions or seeking repetitions prolonging suffering.

• The Goal: The Freedom to close a chapter with grace.

2) Anxiety, Overwhelm & Depression

Quiet the racing mind and the restless body in anxiety and activating the defeated mind and frozen body in depression.

• The Insight: Trace the anxiety back to its source so it loses its power over you.

• The Skills: You will learn physiological regulation skills to either calm your nervous system when in "fight or flight" or to activate your nervous system back into action from the shutdown of "freeze or fawn".

• The Goal: The Courage to face uncertainty without spiraling.

3) Low Self-Esteem & The Inner Critic

Transforming the way you relate to yourself.

• The Insight: Investigate the "Inner Critic." Challenge the unconscious core belief that you are "not enough."

• The Skill: Use Interpersonal Effectiveness to help you set boundaries and build self-respect through action.

• The Goal: The Freedom to be your authentic self.
