About me and my therapy practice

Are you are experiencing issues around any of the following areas: difficult emotions, such as grief (either through loss in death or other losses), guilt, shame or loneliness, or upsetting feelings such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem or other stresses? Are you finding certain relationships difficult? I can provide you with the environment in which to explore these and other life challenges.

You may feel like something is missing in your life or are seeking some personal growth or development then these are also areas that we can investigate together.

I have an accepting, warm, non-judgemental relational approach and my masters level training in psychotherapy and counselling enables me to integrate a wide range of modalities which I can access to utilise with clients holistically.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly with any questions you may have. I look forward to hearing from you.

Practice description

I will encourage you to reflect on your own thoughts and feelings around your concerns, giving you a space to be heard and to do this without judgement and in confidence*. My focus will be on building a trusting therapeutic relationship with you and discovering what is important to you. I believe that you are the expert on your own life and experiences and, therefore, I will not be bombarding you with advice, telling you what to do, but rather helping you to discover or explore your own perspectives on what is best for you at this moment in time. I will not pressure you to make changes but will aim to discover with you what changes are realistically achievable for you. We may work together for however long we both feel is necessary, which could be anything between 6 weeks to over a year. This can be agreed at the beginning but adjusted as required.

If we decide to have our meetings in person the room I use is in a beautiful, peaceful location and has a warm and comfortable atmosphere.

* There are a very few areas that legally require therapists to breach confidentiality to other professionals and I will explain these to you when discussing our contract.

For a copy of my privacy notice please contact me.

I have 20 years experience, in another role, of working with those who have suffered physical, emotional and sexual abuse and have an understanding of the issues of navigating the judicial system. I also have personal experience of childhood parent loss and of child loss as well as the difficulties of trying to support a loved one with coexisting addiction, mental and physical health issues.

My first session

I offer a free initial phone call in which we can discuss your expectations, how many sessions you may require, whether face to face or online therapy is best for you and any other questions you have. This gives both of us an opportunity to assess if we are happy to work together. If we do decide to go ahead I will send you a written contract for you to review and, if in agreement, we will both sign this before commencing therapy.

About me and my therapy practice

How I work.

Building a trusting therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my work. I aim to create a space where you feel heard, accepted and able to explore your thoughts and feelings without fear of judgement.

I work in a relational way, which means I believe that the relationship we build together in therapy is an important part of the healing process. Through a supportive, genuine and respectful connection, we can explore your experiences and the patterns that may be affecting your life.

I believe that you are the expert on your own life and experiences. Rather than offering advice or telling you what to do, I support you in exploring your thoughts and emotions so that you can develop greater self-understanding and find the way forward that feels right for you.

There is no pressure to make changes before you are ready. Therapy moves at your pace, and together we can explore what changes may feel achievable and helpful for you.

Therapy can be short-term or longer-term depending on your needs. Some people attend for around six weeks while others choose to work together for longer.

Practice description

At times in life we can feel stuck, overwhelmed or unsure how to move forward. Talking with a trained therapist can provide a supportive space to explore what you are experiencing and begin to make sense of difficult thoughts and feelings.

I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about whatever is troubling you. My approach is warm, compassionate and tailored to you as an individual, drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches to support your unique needs.

Therapy can offer the opportunity to better understand yourself and discover new ways of coping and finding a way forward that feels right for you.

I work with adults facing a range of challenges, for example, anxiety, depression, trauma, bereavement, relationship difficulties and the lasting impact of abuse or significant life events.

Taking the first step to contact a therapist can feel daunting, and I aim to make that process as comfortable as possible.

Please feel free to contact me if you would like to ask any questions or arrange an initial conversation.

My first session

I offer a free 30-minute introductory session. This gives us the opportunity to talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you hope to gain from it, and whether we feel comfortable working together.

We can also discuss practical matters such as whether online or face-to-face sessions would suit you best and answer any questions you may have.

If you decide you would like to proceed, I will send you a written counselling agreement for you to review before beginning sessions.
