About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Joe, and thanks for taking the time to read my profile.

My own experience, both as a client and as a therapist, is that sometimes life becomes difficult in ways that are hard to make sense of or talk about.

You might be struggling with a relationship, separation, porn or another unwanted behaviour. Perhaps you're drinking more than you'd like, feeling anxious or overwhelmed, or simply feeling stuck and unsure what to do next.

I provide online, person-centred counselling for adults who want a space to talk honestly about what's happening, without judgement.

I have a particular interest in working with men, especially those who may find it difficult to talk about what they're going through or who have reached a point where things have become difficult to manage alone. I also work with women experiencing many of the same challenges.

Some of the things I work with include:

• Anxiety, overthinking and feeling stuck

• Relationships, separation and affairs

• Porn and unwanted or compulsive behaviours

• Shame and difficult emotions

• Alcohol and other difficult behaviours

• Life changes and loss of direction

• Emotional and relationship difficulties

• Adjusting to major changes in life

My approach is straightforward and collaborative. I pay particular attention to your process, the language you use and the emotions that underpin our conversations. I'll work with you to understand what's happening, explore patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and together we can consider what might help you move forward.

I also have personal experience of recovery, which has shaped my understanding of some of the difficulties people can face around habits, behaviour and change. My interest in mindfulness and my wider life experience also inform the way I work. I want you to feel able to explore what's going on without pressure or judgement.

Practice description

I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, holding a Postgraduate Qualification in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Before establishing my private practice, I worked as a counsellor in colleges and recovery centres. I currently provide counselling for Red Rose Recovery, Kendal College, and Physicians Anonymous—a peer-support network for doctors facing burnout, stress, and related challenges.

My approach is person-centred and informed by EFT and motivational interviewing.

• Motivation for change: Using a collaborative, goal-oriented style, we’ll work together to uncover the reasons for change that seem most pertinent to you.

• Understanding the root: We will explore your experiences in the present. You are the expert of your own inner life but I can help you to become more aware of your process.

• I walk beside you and that means we go at your own pace. You can expect to be met with respect, empathy and authenticity. Research shows that the relationship between client and counsellor is key. What happens between us will inform our work.

We will work together in the following way:

Free initial call: We start with an informal 20-minute chat to discuss what you're looking for and answer any questions.

• First session and shared goals: If we decide to work together, our first full session clarifies what you want to achieve so our time remains purposeful.

• Regular progress checks: We review how you're feeling as we go, ensuring therapy evolves alongside your needs and supports your growth for the future.
