About me and my therapy practice
Life can sometimes have us feeling overwhelmed, out of sorts or on our knees. It can leave us feeling rudderless and without a map. My name is Mark, and I'm here to help.
I am a therapist with years of experience in a range of settings. I am qualified to master's level and have expertise in the following areas: CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), person-centred therapy, and attachment theory.
I have a warm, empathic manner and put you at the centre of your journey. I have extensive knowledge and experience to help you in the following areas:
Anxiety and depression
Relationship issues
Workplace stresses
Grief and bereavement
Past and present trauma
Men and masculinity
Addiction
I have written a research paper about and have extensive knowledge of the current challenges men are experiencing and the impact this is having on their mental health. I understand that sitting and talking face to face can be challenging for many men; I often work from my boat, and I find this location can be valuable and beneficial to my male clients. Although working with men is an area of expertise, I should add that my practice is open to people of all genders.
I have experience in education and currently work as a specialist with survivors of abuse. I also hold an ISVA qualification, which means I am trauma-informed and have experience and knowledge of working within the criminal justice system and advocating on behalf of others.
Practice description
I know what it is like to go through a storm and how disorienting it can feel. In my practice, I offer a compassionate approach combined with insight and empathy to help you make sense of your life events. I take an integrative approach, weaving together a range of theories best suited to you and your situation.
I offer sessions from my boat, but I can also do house visits for those in the Lichfield area. Being on the water provides a unique space for people to access therapy, and clients often comment on the calming effect it has.
I use a range of interventions tailored to you; this means that, in addition to talking together to make sense of what is going on for you, you'll also gain practical tools to support your journey.
Ultimately, my aim is for you to become your own therapist. The insight, skills, and tools you gain when working with me are ones you can apply to yourself outside the therapy room.
My first session
What Happens First?
Your first contact will be an Assessment Session, lasting approximately 45 minutes. This gives us a chance to talk about why you are seeking therapy, and I can share some possible ways forward. We can also get the paperwork out of the way! During your assessment, we will talk about your goals and what you want to achieve through therapy. There is no obligation to continue once this session is complete. If you choose to continue, I will usually offer you an initial series of six sessions. This is a good number to see whether an approach is working well or whether it might be a good idea to try something different.
