About me and my therapy practice
People seek counselling for a wide range of reasons. My role as your counsellor would be to support you in finding a way to navigate life's difficult or painful experiences. When life feels hard it is easy to lose belief in yourself, or your relationships, and feel alone. There is no shame in reaching out for help, indeed this takes great courage. I believe that counselling can be beneficial in terms of your relationship with yourself, others and the world.
I am a warm, compassionate person and my counselling style is both person-centred and trauma-informed. I also integrate a variety of other approaches to allow us to work in a way that suits you, and allows you to feel fully heard and valued. I believe in, and respect your inherent strength and resources. My focus, particularly during our early work together, is on gently gaining your trust.
Practice description
I work from comfortable and attractive rooms where I can offer you a safe and welcoming space. Counselling takes place in weekly 50 minute sessions.
For individual counselling, I advise a minimum of 6-8 sessions to allow you to settle into our therapeutic relationship and feel comfortable to explore your experience with me. Beyond this, I offer short-term or open-ended therapy, depending on what feels best for you. This would be agreed, and regularly reviewed between us. Individual counselling can be in-person, online, or a mixture of both.
For couples counselling I always work in-person and we would have an initial introductory session, for you to experience how it might feel to work with me, before you commit to regular therapy. My focus is on your unique relationship, and you are welcome to continue working with me for as long as you feel you need.
I work collaboratively with you and there is no pressure, it is important to me that we move at a pace which feels safe and ethical.
My first session
For individual counselling, the first step is arrange a free 15 minute telephone discussion. This gives me the opportunity to understand your needs and determine if I might be a good fit as your counsellor. It also gives you chance to experience how it feels to talk with me and to decide if counselling seems like the right choice for you. My fees are £50 per session.
For couples counselling, the first step would be for you both to attend an introductory session where you can share your hopes for counselling and experience how it feels to talk together in my presence. Following this, I would invite you to take time together to decide if you would like to commit to regular counselling. If, for any reason, we do not continue to work together then there would be no charge for this session. Otherwise, if it forms the first of a regular couples counselling commitment, then the first session is charged at the usual rate of £75 per session.
