About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I'm Helen. I am a BACP Registered Counsellor. I work with all ages 18+. I welcome clients from all backgrounds irrespective of gender, ethnicity, sexuality, disability or faith.

There are times in life when we feel stuck, overwhelmed or unsure of our next steps. We may find it hard to make sense of our feelings, express what’s going on inside, or feel connected to who we truly are. Life can be especially difficult when we are facing challenges such as illness, loss or relationship difficulties. At other times, there may be no obvious reason - we may simply have been carrying so much for so long that we’ve lost the time and space to pause and listen to ourselves. Whatever brings you here, you do not have to face it alone.

Psychotherapy has helped me to know myself better, given me new perspectives and improved my relationship with myself and others. I believe there is value for all of us in taking time for self-reflection.

Before becoming a counsellor, I worked in the legal sector as a patent attorney. I have a degree in Biochemistry from Cambridge University.

Alongside my counselling practice, I work part-time for an organisation promoting equity, diversity, inclusion and wellbeing in the intellectual property professions. I am a parent to two teenage children and in my free time I like being active, being outdoors, reading and travelling.

Practice description

There is no right or wrong way to ‘do therapy’ and my approach is flexible to meet your individual needs. Our relationship is key to a positive experience in therapy. In a supportive and nurturing environment where you feel free to be yourself, we explore what’s important to you.

Taking time out from your busy life and simply being present with another can create space for new possibilities to emerge. We might be curious about your thoughts, emotions and physical experience. We might discover a pattern or behaviour which impacts your relationships or emotional wellbeing. Or we might work on unresolved issues from the past or creatively in the present. All of this can reveal choices for how you live in the future.

I have worked with a diverse range of people from all walks of life and have helped people in many areas including relationship issues, loss, overthinking, anxiety, chronic illness, emotional wellbeing, identity and lack of purpose.

Next steps

Reaching out can feel like a big step and there is no expectation or obligation for us to work together. The initial session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. Our relationship is fundamental to the therapy and so it is important that we feel comfortable together. I aim to provide a space where you feel safe and understood. We can discuss your needs and see if we can work together to provide what you are looking for.

Please get in touch to arrange an initial session or a complimentary phone or video call to talk about any questions or concerns you have. I look forward to hearing from you.
