About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Helen. Perhaps you're struggling with low energy or anxiety, or feel stuck, overwhelmed or confused. You may have had a recent challenge in your life such as a loss or relationship issue. Maybe you don’t know what caused your struggles. Or perhaps you’re simple curious.
Our relationship is key to a positive experience in therapy. In a supportive and nurturing environment where you feel free to be yourself, we explore what’s important to you.
There is no right or wrong way to ‘do therapy’ and my approach is flexible to meet your individual needs. Taking time out from your busy life and simply being present with another can create space for new possibilities to emerge. Sometimes, we might work on making sense of your thoughts, emotions and physical experience. Other times, we might work to identify a pattern or behaviour which impacts your relationships or emotional wellbeing. Or we might work on unresolved issues from the past or creatively in the present. All of this can reveal choices for how you live in the future.
Psychotherapy has helped me to know myself better and more fully experience the world around me. It has given me new perspectives and improved my relationship with myself and others. Before becoming a counsellor, I worked in the legal sector as a patent attorney.
Alongside my counselling practice, I work for an organisation promoting equity, diversity, inclusion and wellbeing in the intellectual property professions. I am a parent to two teenage children and in my free time I like being active, being outdoors, reading and travelling.
Practice description
I am happy to arrange a complimentary phone or video call to talk about any questions or concerns you have. I will also ask about your reasons for seeking therapy.
The initial session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. Our relationship is fundamental to the therapy and so it is important that we feel comfortable together. I aim to provide a space where you feel safe and understood.
If you decide to proceed with regular therapy, we will usually meet at the same time each week, for 50 minutes. Our working agreement will cover confidentiality, data protection, attendance and payment.
Ethics
I am registered with the BACP and practice under the BACP's Code of Ethics. I hold professional insurance, and also engage in regular supervision and continued professional learning. Our work is confidential, and I manage your data in line with GDPR. I work with people from a wide range of backgrounds and stand for inclusion across gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, age, culture, class, religion, and opinion.
