About me and my therapy practice
I don’t know your story yet, but I do know this; you made it here, through the pain you didn’t deserve, carrying weight that was never yours to hold. You survived with the information and tools you had at the time.
I welcome anyone who is at a point in their life where something doesn’t feel right and they want something to change. It could be anxiety, overwhelm, relationship difficulties (romantic, platonic, or otherwise), or there is a pattern in your life that you don’t know how to get out of.
Taking the step into counselling can feel scary, and I see and respect the bravery and courage in each client I work with.
The way I work is collaborative and is led by you, so we’ll talk about what helps you and what doesn’t, what you need from therapy, your values and your goals.
Practice description
I offer 50 minute sessions. These are usually at the same time each week, and can be either short-term or long-term depending on what you need and what we decide together.
I offer both online and in-person sessions.
In-person sessions are in Shirley, Southampton, and online sessions are on either Google Meet or Zoom.
I am a registered member of the BACP and am bound by the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice.
I work with adults (18+ years old) from all walks of life.
I offer a limited number of reduced price places for those who are unwaged or on low incomes.
My first session
One of the biggest predictors of success in counselling is the therapeutic relationship. That is why it is important to find someone that you “vibe” with. It isn’t about trusting them immediately (trust takes time), but having a sense that maybe you could. I suggest having introductory calls with a couple of potential counsellors, especially if you haven’t had counselling before.
In the intro call, I’ll ask what has brought you to counselling and what you want to change. You may not know the answer, and that’s okay. Sometimes the work is working out what you want to change. You’ll also have space to ask me questions, if you wish.
If we agree to work together, I’ll send you a counselling agreement which contains all the information you need to know, and an intake form with key information I need, such as your access needs*.
*We all have access needs, this could be step-free access, or the option to turn your camera off in an online session. This is your space, and I’ll do what I can to make it work for you.
