About me and my therapy practice

Counselling sessions

My sessions are here to give you space, time and opportunity to pause, breathe and reflect on your reasons for counselling.

You are met with empathy, understanding and a willingness to support you with no unwanted advice, opinions or judgment.

You may be hesitant to consider counselling, this is completely normal and more common than you think.

Maybe you feel you are not ready, your reasons are not enough, you are unsure what to say, or how to say it - you just know you have been functioning for too long, and you need to release your thoughts and feelings.

If this resonates with you, then you do have a valid reason for counselling, and I welcome you.

My experience

Within my private practice I have a wide range of clients, all presenting with different ways of being, and spectrums including: ADHD, Autism, or AUDHD (a mixture of both), OCD, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), sensory sensitivity, and introvert and extrovert personality (you’re not too much or too unsocial).

I am also employed by other organisations. I support university students as an academic mentor, and work in a secondary school as a counsellor.

In my mentor role I support university students in the practical and emotional aspects of university life, while they are managing a recent or ongoing neurodivergent diagnosis.

I am also a secondary school counsellor supporting students with their emotional wellbeing, helping them to understand and manage their thoughts and feelings, and navigate challenges both inside and outside of school.

Your experience

Counselling can bring new self-awareness and help you build confidence, self-acceptance, self-esteem, and a stronger sense of self-worth.

I hope I can support you in your journey of self-discovery.

I also have a podcast, to share with you:

Practice description

My practice

Counselling is a space for you to feel truly listened to regarding your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs.

You will be accepted without judgment, opinion, or unwanted advice. My role is to offer compassion, empathy, and understanding, while supporting you at the pace and level of disclosure that feels right for you.

Insight

Counselling can be helpful whether you’re facing specific challenges, or simply want to better understand yourself. As your confidence in expressing yourself grows, you may decide to explore different concerns, or reflect on situations that have shaped you, but only if and when you feel ready.

Therapy is not about quick fixes. It’s about engaging in the process, showing up, for yourself, not others, and allowing yourself to focus, and being open to the possibility of change.

Even if others have encouraged you to attend, counselling only works if it feels right for you, and if you’re ready to engage in your own way. Clients also come to therapy unsure of what feels “wrong,” but with a sense that something isn’t right.

Your reasons

You may feel overwhelmed, confused, powerless, or disconnected from yourself and others. Together, we explore these feelings in a safe, confidential environment, where there is no pressure to share more than you are ready for. It’s common for clients to say things like, “I don’t want to go there yet” or “I’m not ready”—and that’s completely okay. You choose what to bring into the session, and when.

Sessions are an opportunity to be fully yourself—unfiltered and unapologetic. They can be a space to cry, laugh, reflect, or simply sit with your emotions. Over time, you may discover new ways to connect with yourself and others, develop healthier coping strategies, and build stronger boundaries. Most importantly, counselling can offer you a safe place to be truly heard and accepted.

My first session

First session

Once the the initial consultation session has concluded, you may by now, have already decided to start discussing how to continue forwards with accessing support, and booking your first session.

Our sessions do not follow a plan, structure, or pre-planned expectations. There is no homework, no diaries to keep, or targets that need to achieved, it is simply your choice how you use the space.

First we will look at availability and when you feel ready to start.

Once this has been agreed we will connect via your preferred method, phone or online.

A counselling agreement will be emailed to you, prior to the first session. A sample of this, is available here:

https://www.spread-your-wings-therapy.co.uk/additional-info/

Counselling Agreement

This agreement explains how counselling with me works and what you can expect from our work together. It isn’t a legal contract — it’s simply here to offer clarity, transparency, and shared understanding. The aim is to help avoid misunderstandings and to make sure you feel informed about boundaries, confidentiality, and practical arrangements, so counselling can feel as safe and supportive as possible.

Communication

Communication between us both regarding sessions reminders, confirmation, cancellation or amendment will be made via email for your convenience and records.

Endings

There is also no minimum set number of sessions that you are required to complete. However if you are confirming completion of sessions, it is advised and appreciated if this could be discussed during or at the end of a session, as this gives us both the opportunity to reflect on the sessions, ensure i have met your needs, answer any questions you may ( life after therapy) closing the session with you feeling inner confidence, moving forwards.

If you feel you have any further questions, or need further clarification, please feel free to contact me,
