About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Neil - co-founder and therapist at Room for Therapy.
I believe that therapy can be life-changing and have seen this from both sides of the therapeutic process. I bring to my practice my own experience as a person in a complex and often difficult world. This experience has helped form my values as a person first, but also as a therapist.
Each client presents their own unique story but some common issues that I have worked with in the past include depression, anxiety, historical abuse, marital / relationship challenges, and challenges relating to identity (e.g. gender, sexuality, disability, race and class).
Practice description
My goal in working with clients is to provide a safe, secure space from where we co-create a therapeutic relationship. Within this, a deep understanding and honouring of the client’s experience is paramount. I also seek to help the client gain an understanding of how their past experiences manifest in their current relationships.
My first session
Before we commence a more formal therapeutic arrangement, I like to have an initial "alignment session" with the client. This 50-minute session gives the client the opportunity to learn more about me and the therapeutic process that I work within. It is also an opportunity for the client to explain a bit more about why they have sought help and what they are looking to get from counselling. The fee for this session is £70.
After the session, I would encourage the client to reflect on whether they wish to continue to a more formal regular arrangement. I commit to doing the same and together, we form a judgement as to whether there is sufficient "relational fit" to continue.
What I can help with
ADD / ADHD, Anxiety, Bereavement, Child related issues, Depression, Identity issues, Loss, Men's issues, Neurodiversity, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Stress, Trauma, Work related issues
Types of therapy
Person centred, Psychodynamic, Relational
