About me and my therapy practice

Hi everyone :)

I’m Sunayna, a psychotherapist registered with the BACP. I hold an MA in Person-Centred Experiential Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice from the University of Nottingham, and I’ve been in practice for three years.

My practice is rooted closely in the person-centred approach. I trust that you are the expert on your own life, so I won’t set goals for you, offer quick fixes, or steer you towards a particular outcome. My role in the therapy space is to offer genuine warmth, acceptance and honesty, where you can explore your experience at your own pace and in your own way. Change often emerges when we feel truly heard and understood, rather than when we’re told what to do. Please be aware that if you're looking for something more solution-focused, we may not be the right fit.

I have experience supporting survivors of domestic abuse and people who have experienced trauma. I understand that rebuilding a sense of safety and trust takes time, and that you stay in control of what you share and when. I also work with other areas like anxiety, low mood, grief, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and more.

I offer online sessions of 50 minutes, weekly or fortnightly setting. I offer a £15 initial session so you can decide whether I feel like the right fit. If you decide to continue, the £15 will be deducted from your first sessions fee.

Practice description

My practice is built on the person-centred approach, which holds that everyone has an innate tendency to grow and move towards their potential, given the right conditions. My role is to offer those conditions: a steady, warm and genuine space where you can say what’s true for you, at your own pace, and be met with understanding rather than judgement. I won’t give advice or set goals, because you are the expert on your own life.

In our first session we can talk about what brings you here, if you want to, and you’re welcome to ask me anything about how I work. After that, the sessions are yours to use as you wish. Some people arrive with something specific to talk through, others don’t know where to start, and both are fine. I’ll listen closely, reflect back what I hear, and stay alongside you, including when things feel difficult.

I work with adults on concerns including trauma, domestic abuse, anxiety, low mood, grief, relationships, life transitions and self-esteem and more. You don’t need a clear reason to come, and you decide what you share and when.

*My cancellation policy is 48 hours’ notice for any cancellations. Sometimes this is not always possible. If so, that is okay but you will still be charged for the session to compensate for not enough time to fill that spot.*

What you tell me is confidential and will stay in our space unless I believe there is risk of serious harm to yourself and/or someone else. Further detail about this will be given during our first session.

My first session

Our first session is a chance for us to meet and for you to get a feel for how I work. There’s no pressure to decide anything, and you’re welcome to ask me anything you like.

I’ll explain a little about how person-centred therapy works: that the sessions are yours to use as you wish, that I won’t set goals or give advice, and that my role is to listen closely and understand your experience as you describe it. You can share as much or as little as you want. If you’d rather not go into what brought you here, we can simply talk about how you’re feeling about starting therapy.

We’ll also go through a few things together, including confidentiality and its limits, how often we might meet, and my cancellation policy. You’re welcome to ask questions at any point, and I’ll answer anything about how I work.

Sessions are online for 50 minutes, weekly/fortnightly. My fee is £40. I also offer a £15 initial session for 30 minutes so we can decided whether we are the right fit for each other. If you decide to continue, the £15 will be deducted from your first sessions fee.

At the end of the session, there’s no obligation to continue. You can take some time to think about whether we feel like a good fit, and let me know when you’re ready. If you’d like to book a second session, we can arrange that then.
