About me and my therapy practice
I came to this work after a long time in personal therapy, which convinced me of the power of talking therapy to enable change.
I had to recognise and understand the legacy of a difficult childhood and adolescence, where the pain of proximity to addiction, illness, and the passing of family members, and the damage of these events to a family system, brought adaptations that became unhelpful to me in my adult life.
I have worked throughout my life in creative roles, including music media and the arts, prior to my work as a therapist, and have a specialist knowledge of the challenges that these bring. I have lived experience of neurodivergence and the impact that this can have in day to day life.
I’m not easily shaken or shocked. I can hold, confidentially, and empathetically. anything that you need to talk through. I believe that we are all OK, and are capable of re-decision, and my approach is warm, honest and supportive. I am trained as a Transactional Analyst, which is a modality, and am a member of the BACP.
Practice description
Through our One-On-One work together you will:
Grow your awareness of the patterns that are causing you difficulties in your life.
Begin to relate to those patterns in a new way.
And, explore the root causes of those patterns so you can decide what you would like to do differently.
After our work together, you will feel more in control of your emotions and behaviors within your relationships. You will feel a deeper sense of compassion for yourself and others.
I typically see individual clients once per week. Seeing each other weekly allows for the work to move along at a good pace. At this time I do not see couples or children. I help adult individuals who are over 18.
My first session
Choosing the right therapist is a big decision, and it’s natural to want to feel confident that you’ve found the right fit. It’s important to think about practical aspects, like location and availability, as well as personal factors, such as my approach, and the sense of connection you feel. An initial conversation is a great opportunity to explore these questions and see how it feels to talk with me. Sometimes, it’s only when you’re “in the room” (virtually or in person) that you can truly get a sense of whether it’s a good match. The first few sessions can also help clarify this, and I’m always happy to discuss any thoughts or concerns you might have along the way.
