About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Rebecca. I am a qualified counsellor, registered with the BACP, with additional training in outdoor therapy.

I offer a warm, supportive, and confidential space where you can feel truly heard and accepted. I understand that reaching out for counselling can feel like a big step, and I aim to make the process as comfortable and reassuring as possible. We will work together at a pace that feels right for you, exploring whatever may be going on in your life.

I offer indoor, outdoor, or a blend of both types of sessions, depending on your preferences. My outdoor “walk and talk” sessions can provide a more relaxed and natural environment, which some people find helps ease the pressure of a traditional therapy room and supports more open conversation.

Life can bring many challenges, and at times you may experience feelings such as anxiety, stress, sadness, fear, or uncertainty. Counselling offers a safe and non-judgemental space to explore these feelings, helping you to gain clarity, build resilience, and better understand yourself as you move through different stages of life. Sessions are 50 minutes in length.

I have 12 years’ experience working within the NHS, including 7 years supporting the LGBTQI+ community and working with people from a wide range of cultural, national, and faith backgrounds. This has given me a strong appreciation for diversity and an awareness of the impact of inequality and lived experience.

I can support you with a range of concerns, including:

Anxiety and stress

Low mood and depression

Emotional difficulties

Low confidence and self-esteem

Bereavement and loss

Sexuality and identity

Decision-making and life transitions

Suicidal thoughts and self-harm

Work-related issues, redundancy, and retirement

Parenting challenges

Relationship difficulties and divorce

Past abuse

Personal development

Practice description

I am a mother in a blended family and someone who feels deeply connected to the outdoors. Whether it’s a gentle local walk, a mountain hike, or the occasional wild swim, I’ve experienced first-hand the calming and restorative power of nature. I also have a strong interest in biophilic design—bringing elements of the natural world into indoor spaces—and I enjoy weaving this into my counselling work wherever possible.

At Seasons of Change Counselling, I offer outdoor “walk and talk” sessions, giving you the opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings in a more relaxed, natural setting. Being outside can ease some of the pressure that people sometimes feel in a traditional counselling room, helping conversations to flow more naturally. This approach can be especially supportive for neurodiverse individuals or for those who feel more comfortable in open, outdoor spaces. Sessions are always shaped around your needs—you might prefer to walk, sit quietly on a bench or log, or simply spend a few moments in stillness. While outdoor therapy can be very beneficial for younger people, I currently offer this service to adults aged 18 and over.

If you would prefer an indoor setting, I also provide one-to-one counselling in a calm, welcoming, and comfortable space. My counselling room in Barnsley is easy to access by both car and public transport, with paid parking available nearby. The building is disability-friendly, and I aim to create an environment where you can feel safe, supported, and at ease. Sessions last for 50 minutes, offering you a dedicated therapeutic space each time we meet.

I understand that life can be busy, and attending in-person sessions isn’t always possible. For this reason, I also offer online counselling, allowing you to access support from the comfort and privacy of your own home. These sessions are secure, confidential, and designed to be as supportive and effective as meeting in person

My first session

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin to build a sense of trust and safety. This will include some paper work (counselling contract & emergency details information) I understand that starting counselling can feel daunting, so there is no pressure to share more than you feel comfortable with.

We will begin by exploring what has brought you to counselling and what you might hope to gain from it. You are welcome to go at your own pace, and I will support you gently as you begin to talk through your thoughts and feelings.

I will also explain how I work, including confidentiality, boundaries, and how sessions are structured. This is a space for you to ask any questions you may have and to get a sense of whether you feel comfortable working with me.

If you have chosen outdoor therapy, we will also take time to discuss practicalities such as location, pace, and how we can make the experience feel safe and supportive for you.

By the end of the session, we can reflect on how it felt for you and whether you would like to continue working together. There is no obligation to commit—finding the right counsellor is important, and it’s essential that you feel at ease..
