About me and my therapy practice
My name is Joe. I offer integrative psychotherapeutic counselling for people who are curious to understand themselves more deeply and explore the patterns, experiences, and questions that shape their lives. Therapy can be a space to reflect on your past, your relationships, and the ways you meet the world today, while discovering new possibilities for change, growth and meaning.
Alongside traditional talking therapy, I also offer shamanic counselling. When appropriate, this can bring a more experiential dimension to the work, helping to deepen insight and connect with inner resources that may not always be reached through words alone.
Together we will explore what has brought you to therapy and gently uncover what may lie beneath the surface. My role is to hold a thoughtful and supportive space where you can reflect, question, and develop greater awareness of yourself and your life.
Practice description
I offer relational, integrative psychotherapeutic counselling grounded in ethical practice and clinical training. Alongside traditional psychotherapy, I can thoughtfully integrate shamanic approaches where appropriate, supporting deeper experiential understanding and personal transformation. Any shamanic work is introduced only with your consent and when it feels clinically appropriate, safe, and supportive for your process.
My integrative approach has a psychodynamic foundation. This means we may explore how unconscious patterns, early relationships, and childhood experiences continue to influence your thoughts, emotions, and relationships in the present. Together we might look at themes such as attachment, defence mechanisms, and recurring patterns that shape how you experience the world.
I also draw on person-centred principles, exploring ideas such as the Self and conditions of worth. This work invites reflection on how your sense of identity has developed, how you see yourself today, and what it might mean to reconnect with your more authentic self.
Where it feels helpful, shamanic elements can be included in the work. This might involve guided shamanic journeying, a structured and intentional practice used for self-exploration, healing, and insight. For some clients, we may also incorporate gentle ceremonial practices or work in nature. Any experiential work is approached with care, respect, and a strong focus on safety, reflection, and integration.
At the heart of my practice is the therapeutic relationship. I aim to offer a space where you can feel safe, respected, and free from judgement. My role is to meet you with sincerity, empathy, and honesty, supporting you to explore your inner world at a pace that feels right for you.
My first session
I offer a free 30-minute phone or video call where we can talk about what has brought you to therapy, your hopes or goals for the work, and any questions you may have about my approach. This conversation also gives us a chance to get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit. There is no obligation after this initial call.
If you decide you would like to begin therapy, I will ask you to complete a short assessment form and read through the therapy agreement before our first full session. This helps us use our time together meaningfully, and we can reflect on anything that arose in the assessment as we begin to explore how we might work together.
