About me and my therapy practice
Sometimes life can feel overwhelming.
Sometimes we get stuck repeating the same negative patterns of thinking and behaviour.
Sometimes we are dealing with traumatic experiences that can feel unbearable.
And sometimes we just feel disconnected - unseen and unheard.
Recognising when things are not OK and reaching out for support takes real courage. Sometimes we might reach out to a friend, a relative or a colleague. But sometimes we might feel ashamed of how we think, feel and behave – or simply don’t want to burden loved ones with our troubles. Counselling provides that confidential and safe space where you can explore your innermost thoughts, feelings and behaviours with a warm and empathetic listener who accepts and supports you without judgement.
By looking for a therapist you have already taken a big step towards seeking a more fulfilling way of being – where you can feel OK with yourself and the world around you.
Finding the right counsellor is crucial for your therapeutic journey and experience. And with so many qualified counsellors out there, you need to shop around. I therefore offer a free, confidential and no-obligation 30 minute session – either online or on the phone – so that we can find out if I might be the right therapist for you and I am someone you will feel comfortable working with.
Practice description
My aim is to give you a safe space where you can feel seen, heard and validated in your vulnerability. For me, creating an open, non-judgemental and trusting relationship with my clients is essential for therapeutic change.
My counselling approach is founded in the beliefs that we are all OK, we are all autonomous and we all have the capacity and resources to make positive change. We can change negative thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are holding us back. That often means reflecting on our past to better understand our present in order to make positive changes in the future.
I offer weekly 50 minute sessions, both in person and online, short and long term, depending on your needs. I sometimes use creative tools during sessions to help my clients become more self-aware and to connect with feelings they cannot verbalise, such as shells and stones, sand trays, therapeutic photo and emotions cards and drawing pictures and timelines. I will be led by what you need each session.
As a registered member of the BACP, I am bound by the BACP Ethical Framework, upholding client confidentiality, safety and wellbeing and good practice. I undertake continuous professional development in the form of specialised training courses, academic reading and research, personal therapy and clinical supervision to support my counselling practice.
My first session
I offer a free, confidential and no-obligation 30 minute session – either online or on the phone – so that we can find out if I might be the right therapist for you and I am someone you will feel comfortable working with.
The very first 50 minute counselling session tends to involve a bit of admin, going through the counselling contract between us, learning what to expect from one another and gaining a broad understanding of what you would like to be different when you end your counselling sessions. From then on, we will go at your pace, attending to what issues are most 'knocking at the door' each week and setting therapeutic goals that you want to work towards.
