About me and my therapy practice
I offer talk therapy and Art therapy. Tears and laughter are welcome.
I am a fully trained Integrative psychotherapist. This means I draw on a range of evidence based theories to help you and your particular needs.
Therapy is both a deeply intimate and yet professional relationship. I create a space where you can talk freely about whatever comes to mind without judgement.
Practice description
My theoretical orientation is that of an Integrative Arts Psychotherapist. This means I draw upon several psychological theories and use the arts as a means of enhancing the psychological dialogue. I start from the humanistic and optimistic belief that people have a natural inclination towards self-fulfillment and self-awareness. I believe that while all people share this desire or drive, when a person enters therapy they have a unique make-up and history , which has brought them to the place they are now experiencing.
My theoretical orientation takes into account how psychosocial factors of gender, race, religion, class, age, sexual orientation, and biology, all play a part in how we see and what we feel about ourselves. The importance of this is not overlooked and at times it may play a crucial part in understanding how the client sees themselves and the therapist.
Authenticity and friendliness are central to my therapeutic role, evidence has shown the quality of the relationship is possibly THE most enabling factor for a positive outcome for the client. For this reason I give a free 15 minute consultation to see if we are a good fit and can work together.
While we cannot create a different past we can reflect on it and create a new understanding of our history and our relationship with it. Integrating new evidence based findings from biology, neuroscience and other quantitative sources into my therapy practice I aim to provide an effective experience towards mental health.
This makes it client-centred, so no exact formula of treatment can be applied without your input.
The first few years of life play a crucial role in our development into adults; the treatment we experience by our first caregivers influences the pattern of our attachment patterns for all of our future.
This multi-layered concept is dynamic in allowing a non-dogmatic approach to treatment.
Adopting a client-centered approach allows you to set the pace and define the pace and areas of work.
