About me and my therapy practice

I’m Julia a friendly and supportive counsellor. Following adversity, I’ve been lucky enough through counselling, to have become comfortable in my own skin, hence my desire to support others - who've perhaps also been impacted by life's challenges - to achieve this.

Life, and indeed love, can be brutal and can take a toll on us at different stages. With kindness, and providing you with the time and space that is truly for you and you alone, the kind of counselling support that I offer, can be a revelation. Especially when there is a sense that our relationships, or even life itself, is getting beyond our control.

The balance between learning to feel what we truly feel and finding practical answers is where a counsellor can help someone make a real difference. Helping to alleviate emotional distress and discovering different ways of approaching situations that can impact us.

The detachment and objectivity of a counsellor, trained to provide support in a crisis, is known to help people through trying times, to help them feel ‘whole’ again. Perhaps to even encourage them more towards their own version of ‘a life worth living’ or becoming comfortable in their own skin.

Reaching out and asking for help with life's challenges may at first, seem a daunting step to take, yet there is no shame in needing outside help when we're struggling to cope.

Practice description

Through decades of providing coaching and mentoring support to people during my business career, I have gained valuable insight into how stress and work-related pressure can impact our sense of well-being - in all aspects of our life.

My counselling training and practise has expanded my understanding of the emotional and psychological toll that life’s frustrations and disappointments can bring.

There are numerous methods, or ‘models’ used by counsellors, my work – and indeed my training – is called ‘integrative’, in that it picks out the best parts of these different methods, so as to offer people the most effective help, and techniques most suited to each person’s particular needs.

The real priority in my practice, however, is not about particular techniques – they are just a ‘toolkit’ I can access – it is about being by your side, providing you with support in a safe, peaceful and confidential space. Together, we can then explore your concerns and help you to learn new strategies for dealing with them.

I support people with a wide range of issues, but, in particular, I find my work focusing around a few key areas, that I have stronger connection to:

· Anxiety, depression and loss

· Relationship challenges

· Menopause support and other health concerns

· Financial and work related issues

· Impact of redundancy or retirement

· Survivors of trauma and sexual abuse

However, for some people, the work we do together expands beyond solving the problems life presents them, but can also encompass their own particular version of ‘a life worth living’ – how to both sketch this out more fully, and then to move towards actually living it.

My first session

I offer a free, no obligation ‘chemistry’ call, to allow you opportunity to explore if I might be the right ‘fit’, as the person to support you. It offers you the chance to summarise what you would like to work on, and me to outline the ways in which I work. Following this, you can reflect upon the experience, and decide if you would like to proceed more formally - at a pace to suit you (with either shorter, or longer term work … often this would tend to be a weekly session, but I am flexible in this regard, to suit a client’s needs - and budget). We would then agree those matters, as well as aspects such as confidentiality, during the first full session of working together.

Beyond that, please also feel free to email me, if you have any questions you would like to ask me, about how I work, in order for you to consider booking an actual ‘chemistry’ call (which we can also do as video call, if you prefer that option).

Good luck in finding the right person for you … Julia
