About me and my therapy practice

The greatest flaw in modern education is not what it teaches, but what it neglects: it prepares us to understand the world, while leaving us strangers to ourselves.

In the pace and pressures of modern life, it can be difficult to find the time or space to stop and truly reflect on what is happening within us. If you are feeling lost, overwhelmed, anxious or disconnected from yourself, counselling can provide a space to pause, explore what you are experiencing and begin to understand yourself more deeply.

I am a person-centred counsellor whose approach is grounded in empathy, acceptance and the belief that people have an innate capacity for growth when they are given the right environment in which to explore themselves.

Carl Rogers, the founder of the person-centred approach, described his philosophy through the idea of "A Way of Being". This resonates strongly with how I work. I aim to offer a genuine, welcoming and non-judgemental space where you can speak openly and honestly, at your own pace, knowing that you will be met with understanding and acceptance.

I hold a degree in Person-Centred Counselling. Alongside my counselling training, I have had a lifelong interest in Eastern philosophy. This has deepened my interest in self-awareness, human nature and the ways in which we experience suffering. While my counselling practice is firmly rooted in the person-centred approach, these perspectives have helped shape the way I understand people and work with my clients.

I have supported people experiencing a range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, bereavement, fear, emotional distress, historic trauma and significant life transitions.

I do not see my role as telling you what to do or who you should become. Instead, I will walk alongside you as you explore your inner world, helping you develop a deeper understanding of yourself and discovering your own way forward.

Practice description

I offer a safe, confidential and accepting space where you can explore the thoughts, feelings and experiences that may be difficult to make sense of alone.

Life can leave us feeling anxious, depressed, fearful, isolated or simply disconnected from ourselves. Sometimes we can struggle to talk openly with the people closest to us, even when we know they care about us. Counselling provides a space where you can speak freely, without judgement or the expectation that you need to have everything figured out.

I offer home visit, Walk & Talk, telephone and online counselling, allowing you to choose an environment in which you feel most comfortable. Sessions are £35 for 60 minutes, with appointments currently available on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9am and 7pm.

Walk & Talk counselling offers the opportunity to explore your thoughts while walking outdoors, combining therapeutic conversation with the calming influence of being in nature. Home visits can provide the familiarity and comfort of your own environment, while telephone and online sessions offer flexibility from wherever you feel comfortable and private.

My approach is collaborative. I will not judge you, tell you how you should live your life, or attempt to “fix” you. Instead, we work together to understand what is happening for you and what you need.

My aim is to help you feel heard, understood and less alone, while supporting you towards greater self-understanding, acceptance and positive change.

My first session

Your first session is an opportunity for us to meet, begin getting to know one another and explore what has brought you to counselling. There is no expectation that you need to tell me everything straight away. You can share as much or as little as feels comfortable.

We will discuss what you would like from counselling and what you hope might change or become different for you. I will also explain how I work, including confidentiality, professional boundaries and the practical arrangements for our sessions, so that you know what to expect.

Most importantly, the first session is an opportunity to begin developing the therapeutic relationship. Feeling comfortable and able to trust your counsellor is an important part of the process, and I encourage you to take your time.

The first session is a free 30 minute introduction so we you can get to know each other and make sure it is the perfect fit for you.

Whether you already understand what you want to explore or simply know that something does not feel right, you do not need to arrive with all the answers. We can begin wherever you are.
