About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Sophie and I offer face to face and online counselling sessions in North Shields.

Whether you are struggling with feelings of self-doubt, stress, ‘stuckness’, people pleasing, anxiety, grief or depression, I can help you untangle what’s going on and work with you on ways to feel calmer, more confident and in control.

About me:

I am a BACP registered counsellor and qualified from the Northern Guild of Psychotherapy, I now run a part-time private counselling practice using spaces in North Shields. I have counselling experience in the charity and healthcare sectors with people of all ages, from all walks of life. I have worked with anxiety, depression, coping with physical illness, caring responsibilities, stress at work, grief and loss, trauma, identity crises, relationship breakdowns (and more). I am particularly interested in working with low self-esteem, social anxiety and identity crises.

Before retraining as a counsellor I worked in HR and supported people with issues like stress, disputes and conflict mediation, workplace adjustments, and confidence coaching. I have a very good awareness of how mental health can manifest in the workplace but ultimately wanted to help people more directly with counselling support.

My therapeutic approach is integrative, which means I pull from different modalities and tailor my approach to what you need, whether that is space to explore, or something more structured, so don’t worry if you don’t know type of counselling you want, we can discuss this together. I am person-centred, which means my core belief is that everyone has an inherent capacity for growth and self-healing. My clients have described me as kind, warm, easy to talk to, and non-judgemental.

My first session

If you like we can arrange a free phonecall to understand what you are looking for and see if I am a good fit for you.

If you are happy to go ahead we would then begin with a 50 minute assessment session where I can explain how I normally work and hear about what’s brought you to therapy (no issue is too small), and where you would like to go. This helps us both get an understanding of each other, but there is no obligation for you to proceed if you don’t want to.

Sessions are 50 minutes and typically weekly or fortnightly, although we can discuss what works best for you and your circumstances.

In person sessions are £55, online sessions are £45.
