About me and my therapy practice

Hello and welcome — I’m Grace.

You might be here because you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply unsure where to turn next. Taking the step to consider counselling is a brave and meaningful choice — and I’m glad you’re reading this. I believe counselling is more than a conversation; it’s a safe, compassionate space where your story is truly heard and your experience matters. I’m here to walk alongside you without judgment, at a pace that feels right for you, helping you make sense of what’s been heavy, painful, or confusing and supporting you to find clarity, resilience and hope again. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, loss, relationship patterns, life transitions, or the weight of everyday struggles, I provide a confidential, warm and respectful space where we explore your world together and work toward the change you want to see in your life.

Practice description

At Grace Evans Counselling, I provide a warm, compassionate private therapy practice based in Chellaston, Derbyshire and online, offering a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space where clients can explore life’s challenges and build emotional wellbeing at their own pace. My private practice supports adults and couples with a wide range of concerns — including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, low self esteem, relationship difficulties and major life transitions — using an integrative, evidence based approach that blends Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person Centred, Psychodynamic, Solution Focused and Attachment Based Therapy to tailor support to your individual needs and goals.

With many years of professional experience and personally informed empathy, I create a therapeutic environment where you can feel genuinely heard, understood and supported on your journey toward clarity, resilience and meaningful change. I offer individual therapy, couples counselling and faith-based Christian counselling — all designed to help you feel more grounded, connected and confident in navigating life’s emotional and relational complexities.

My practice is flexible and accessible: you can choose in-person counselling in Derbyshire, secure online sessions, or telephone sessions to fit your life circumstances. Sessions typically last around 50 minutes and are offered at a competitive fee, with concessions available where needed. Through every step of the therapeutic process, my priority is to honour your story, respect your pace and support your capacity for growth, healing and personal insight.

My first session

Your first counselling session with me is an introduction to our work together — a gentle, confidential, and supportive space where you can begin to explore what has brought you to therapy and how I can best support you. It’s natural to feel a mix of emotions before your first session — curiosity, nervousness, hope — and these feelings are welcomed and understood.

We’ll start by getting to know each other in a relaxed and respectful way. I’ll explain how I work, including the integrative approach I use and what you can expect from counselling overall. You’ll also have the chance to ask any questions you might have about the process, confidentiality, sessions, fees or anything else that matters to you.

A key part of the first session is understanding your concerns, experiences and what you hope to gain from counselling. You don’t need a polished story ready — you can share at your own pace whatever feels most important, whether that’s a big issue, a recent life challenge, or simply a sense of “I don’t quite feel like myself right now.” I’ll listen without judgment and support you to articulate what feels most present for you.

We’ll also talk through practical and professional elements — such as how confidentiality works, how we’ll communicate between sessions if needed, session length (usually about 50 minutes), how often we might meet and how ongoing work can be planned together. This is your space to feel heard and to clarify how the therapy relationship might work for you.

By the end of the session, the aim is for you to have a sense of:

• whether you feel comfortable with me as your therapist,

• what your early goals or areas of focus might be,

• and how future sessions could support your wellbeing and personal growth.

The first session isn’t about solving everything at once — it’s about building trust, understanding your story, and starting our work together in a way that feels safe, respectful and personalised just for you.
