I work in-person in Kings Cross on Wednesdays.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a psychotherapist working with LGBTQ+ adults in Kings Cross and online.

Some people come with something specific. Anxiety that has become hard to manage, or that has never quite gone away. A relationship that keeps ending the way the last one did. Questions about gender, or a transition they are moving through. Sex that has become complicated, or gone quiet. Others just notice that something has stopped working and cannot yet say why.

You do not need to arrive knowing what you want from therapy. Working that out is part of it, and we do it together rather than my deciding it for you. We also come back to it, because what you want at the start is not always what turns out to matter.

A lot of the people I see are capable and articulate in most areas of their lives and find that this stops somewhere closer in. Saying what you actually want to someone who matters is a different skill from the ones that got you this far.

Before training as a therapist I spent many years working in large organisations, much of it in senior roles. If work is part of what you want to think about, it will not need explaining from scratch.

I have particular experience working with gay men and with trans people.

Practice description

People come for many reasons. Anxiety is one of the most common, whether that is something recent and sharp or a low background hum that has been there so long it feels like personality rather than a problem. Others notice difficulties in relationships, sex, identity or belonging, or find themselves caught in shame and self-criticism they would never direct at anyone else.

For LGBTQ+ people some of this has a history. Years of monitoring yourself, reading rooms, managing other people's comfort and working out what to disclose and to whom leave a residue, and it does not always lift when the circumstances change. Coming out, or transitioning, or simply living openly does not automatically undo what came before it.

We agree together what you are hoping for and what would be most useful, and keep that under review as things develop. Alongside that, we look at how these experiences came about and what they may be responding to.

Sessions are weekly, and the work can be short-term or open-ended. Therapy is a place to think about all of this together, over time.

My first session

A first session is a chance to start talking and to see how it feels to work together. There is nothing to prepare and no assessment to get through. You do not need to arrive knowing what you want to work on.

Some people come with something specific in mind. Others just have a sense that something is not working as it once did. Both are fine, and we begin with whatever is there.

Sessions are 50 minutes, usually weekly, and my fee is £80. I have space for up to two lower-fee, longer-term places, offered on a limited basis and discussed at the start.

Before a first session I offer a free initial conversation of around 20 minutes, to see whether working together feels right.
