About me and my therapy practice
I believe therapy isn't about fixing you, it's about creating a space where you can reconnect with yourself, make sense of your experiences, and move from surviving to truly living.
If life feels overwhelming right now, you're not alone. You may be struggling with anxiety, depression, past trauma, difficult relationships, low self-esteem, or simply feeling lost. Perhaps you've spent so long surviving that you've forgotten what it feels like to live.
As a trauma-informed Integrative Counsellor, I offer a safe, compassionate, and non-judgemental space where you don't have to wear a mask. Together, we'll work collaboratively, at a pace that feels right for you, supporting you to reconnect with yourself and work towards meaningful, lasting change.
I am passionate about helping people develop self-love, self-acceptance, and self-compassion. I believe many of the challenges we face in adulthood are shaped by childhood experiences, family dynamics, trauma, and difficult life events. These experiences can influence how we think, feel, relate to others, and see ourselves. I recognise the connection between our experiences, our nervous system, and the ways we learn to cope and survive.
Many people become caught in cycles of unhealthy relationships, self-sacrifice, codependency, or feeling responsible for everyone else's wellbeing. Therapy offers the opportunity to understand these patterns, strengthen your sense of self, and build healthier ways of relating to yourself and others.
Healing is not a linear journey, and there is no expectation to have all the answers. I believe healing begins with acceptance, embracing every part of yourself, including those that may have felt unseen, unheard, or misunderstood. Whatever you have been through, your story matters. I believe you already hold the capacity for growth and healing within you, and my role is to walk alongside you with compassion, support, and gentle challenge as you move towards a more authentic and fulfilling life.
Practice description
My experience has allowed me to work alongside adults from a wide range of backgrounds, supporting them through complex emotional and psychological challenges. This has included working with women criminal justice involvement, individuals affected by drug and alcohol use, and adults navigating trauma, mental health difficulties, life transitions, and other vulnerabilities.
My work is grounded in Person-Centred Therapy, creating a warm and accepting space where you feel heard and understood. While these approaches form the foundation of my practice, I also draw from other therapeutic modalities where appropriate, tailoring our work to your unique needs. I integrate Psychodynamic Therapy to explore how past experiences may be influencing your present, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to help you identify your strengths and move towards your goals, and DBT-informed skills to support emotional regulation and healthier coping strategies.
Seeking support can feel scary, but you don’t have to navigate life's challenges alone. Wherever you are in your journey, I would be honoured to walk alongside you.
My first session
Taking the first step towards therapy can feel daunting, which is why I offer a free 15min consultation call. This gives us both the opportunity to see whether we are the right fit, with no obligation to continue.
During this session, we'll explore what has brought you to therapy, your hopes for counselling, any previous experiences of therapy, and what you would like to gain from our work together. It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions and decide whether you feel comfortable moving forward. The therapeutic relationship is at the heart of counselling, so it's important that you feel safe, heard, and able to be yourself.
If we decide to continue working together, ongoing sessions are 50 minutes and usually take place weekly. Together, we will decide on the approach that best suits your needs:
- Open-ended therapy - I offer structured open-ended therapy, allowing us the flexibility to work at a pace that feels right for you while providing enough direction to keep our work focused and purposeful.
Short term - Short-term therapy gives us the structure to focus on a specific issue or goal, while providing the support and direction to help you gain clarity, build practical strategies, and work towards meaningful change over an agreed number of sessions.
Single Session Therapy (SST) - Sometimes one session is all you need. Single Session Therapy offers a focused, one-off session to explore a specific issue, gain clarity, or identify practical next steps, without any expectation of ongoing therapy.
If you feel I align with what you need, you can contact me through the BACP enquiry form or email me directly at abscounselling1@gmail.com. I aim to respond to all enquiries as promptly as possible.
