About me and my therapy practice
My name is Lauren and i am the therapist behind YAP (Yorkshire Adolescent Psychotherapy).
My specialism is working within the adolescent phase of life and I have over 8000 hours of experience in one-to-one therapeutic sessions with this age group since 2015.
I have trained for seven years in total. Four of these years have been child and adolescent specialised in addition to my three year BA (hons) in Counselling previous to this. It was important for me to gain the four year Child and Young Person Psychotherapeutic Counselling and Child Psychotherapy Diploma to gain as much knowledge as possible. I am a full clinical member of the UKCP and a registered member of the BACP . Under both organisation's i am under the child specialism list of therapists.
I am a relationship-focused integrative therapist, meaning I have been trained in many different approaches, ensuring I can offer a bespoke approach to every young person i work with. These include Child Centred, Attachment Focused, Gestalt, Psychodynamic, Transactional Analysis, Behavioural and Trauma Focused theories and approaches. I am also trained in many creative interventions to support the young person to explore their inner world. All of the approaches i have trained in and the theories i have studied work seamlessly together for my work with young people. It's paramount for working with teenagers that you adjust your approach to suit them where they are in that moment. I am a keen advocate for knowledge and training of as many approaches as possible to meet this age group where they are in this crucial stage in their lives.
I have extensive experience in working with trauma, attachment disorders, bereavement, low mood, anxiety and self-harm and have had eleven years working experience in all of these areas and can offer specialised therapy to support both your child and yourself in the process.
Practice description
I understand the prospect of therapy may be daunting for many young people and I prioritise the Therapeutic Relationship to enable my clients to feel comfortable and at ease with the process.I am trained to work in ages 5-25 years but for this premises within Shipley will need to be Year 6 upwards. The room is large and cosy but would not be suitable for some of the creative and play interventions younger children would benefit from . I am still able to provide many other interventions for the older years of 11 and above.
I am currently based in Wharf Street Practice on Wharf street which is tucked away from the main road and has on street parking and also a carpark on the street itself.
There is also a large Costa Coffee Shop a two minute walk away which is a nice spot for parents to relax whilst their child is in a session. This also provides free parking.
My room is large and cosy and i bring my own therapy kit to allow for additional creative interventions to take place if the young person wishes to engage in this.
My first session
The process of how I meet and proceed with clients are as follows:
Firstly, A parent assessment is booked where I meet with the parent to gain a full picture of background and current presenting symptoms , issues etc This can either be with or without the young person resent which i leave for the parent and child to decide. There is plenty of opportunity to gain the young persons voice within our introductory session in which i gain their full perspective on what they would like from therapy.
Then following this, if the parent feel I would be a good fit for their child, they can book in a singular introductory session with the young person and myself. From there both parent and child decide whether they would like to book in a course of six to eight sessions or pause the referral.
We would decide on our weekly slot subject to availability and what is possible for yourselves. These are currently on Wednesdays between 11am and 19:00pm.
On the eighth session, we meet again for a parent and child review meeting and we jointly decide how to proceed from there. This includes three different options: continuing on a weekly basis for six more sessions, dropping to fortnightly sessions or closing the work there.
Within the parent assessment, we can discuss how I feel I can support your child ,what approach may be most helpful right now and answer any questions you may have about how I work and the process overall.
All assessments, sessions and reviews are the same fee of £70 and last 50 minutes. The sessions are paid weekly, the day before the session through BACS transfer.
