About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Vince.
I’m a BACP registered counsellor and psychotherapist. I work with adults and young people aged 18 to 25. I am gender affirming and neurodiverse inclusive.
I often work with people who are ‘keeping it together’ for the outside world but who are struggling internally. Clients come because they’re feeling anxious, low, overwhelmed, stuck or exhausted by the effort of getting through the week. Some are navigating major life changes or career challenges. Others are beginning to understand the lasting impact of difficult childhood experiences or are exploring life through a neurodivergent lens.
Many people I work with tell me that they don’t feel understood or what it’s like to live in their world. My hope is that in our work together you will feel heard and supported.
Does any of this feel familiar?
• You’re exhausted from holding everything together whilst feeling as though you’re falling apart inside.
• Your mind never seems to switch off. You overthink conversations, worry about things that haven’t happened yet and feel constantly on edge.
• Perhaps you’ve spent so long putting other people’s needs first you’ve lost touch with what you need yourself.
• You may be struggling with low mood, feeling numb, feeling overwhelmed or disconnected from the person you used to be.
• You’re beginning to realise that difficult experiences from your childhood are persistently affecting your confidence, emotional wellbeing, and sense of self-worth in your adult life. That you’re always alert to danger and are repeating the same painful patterns in your relationships.
• Maybe you’ve always felt different, misunderstood, or as though you’re working much harder than everyone else to cope with everyday life.
• Perhaps you’re facing a significant life change, questioning your career, dealing with loss, or wondering how you ended up feeling so stuck.
Whatever has brought you here, you don’t have to face it alone. Together we can make sense of what you’ve lived through.
Practice description
I am an integrative practitioner which means that I combine a number of therapeutic approaches in my work with clients. I will meet you with empathy and respect whilst we explore together how life events, past relationships and emotional patterns may be shaping your present here-and-now experiences. Together, we will co-create a space in which you can feel safe to explore how you understand your inner world. Whatever you are experiencing my role is to be alongside you. Not as an expert with all the answers but as a fellow human committed to supporting you in making sense of your experiences.
My practice is informed by three interconnected modalities: the Person-Centred approach, Psychodynamic theory and Attachment theory.
The Person-Centred Approach
At the heart of my approach is a deep respect for your autonomy and inner wisdom. Person-centred therapy is built on the belief that you are the expert in your own life. I offer a warm, non-judgmental presence, where empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard create the conditions for you to feel truly heard and understood.
Psychodynamic Theory
Alongside this, I draw from psychodynamic theory to help you explore how past experiences - especially early relationships - may influence your current feelings, emotions, and behaviours. This modality invites gentle reflection on unconscious processes and internal conflicts, offering insight into the roots of distress and the possibility for meaningful change.
Attachment Theory
Attachment Theory deepens this understanding by exploring how our earliest bonds - often with caregivers - shape the way we relate to ourselves and others. These patterns can influence how we form relationships, manage intimacy, and respond to emotional needs. During our sessions we may notice how your attachment styles manifest themselves in your life today, and we can work together to foster more secure and connected ways of being.
My first session
I will spend some time introducing myself and explaining how I work. We’ll also spend some time talking about your history, your reasons for coming to counselling and your counselling goals. You may not think of everything and that is okay. Counselling is an evolving process and most people become aware of new themes during the counselling process. We’ll then agree on the way that we will work together. Some of this is necessarily quite formal so please feel free to ask any questions at any stage.
Every counselling session is unique. However, in each of our meetings we will work together towards your goals. What you want to bring may vary between sessions and may depend upon how you are feeling or what has happened in your life. A session might include things like:
- What is happening in your life in the present
- Your meaningful relationships
- Work colleagues and friendships
- Your feelings, behaviours and emotions
- Things you are currently struggling with
- Past life events and your childhood
You can decide what feels most helpful and I will work with you in an empathetic and non-judgmental way.
